The Deputy Minister Designate for Youth and Sports, Mr Jospeh Yammin, has refuted claims to the effect that he is not a Ghanaian.
Speaking during his parliamentary vetting on Monday, Mr Yammin said he was a Ghanaian who held no allegiance to any other country.
"My mother comes from Sakana in the Upper West Region", he said, adding that he was born and bred in the Ashanti Region.
Mr Yammin went on to disclose that he failed on two occasions when he tried to enlist in the Ghana Armed Forces and Air Force respectively because he was suspected to be a foreigner.
He added that he did not understand where the idea of he being a foreigner emanated from.
Touching on his plans for the Ministry when given the nod, Mr Yammin said he would help identify and develop sporting talents at the grassroot level as part of efforts to improve Ghana's performance in international sports.
According to him, the country was struggling in some sporting disciplines mainly because good talent in the villages and in remote parts of the country were not being properly harnessed.
He pledged to focus on this when confirmed as Deputy Minister.
Mr Yammin is the Ashanti Regional secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
