In Europe or the United States of America, they most often address their Head of State as Mr. President or better yet with their biological names. Titles, most often do not matter, but not so in Africa where almost every President wants the title Excellency attached to their name.
Some renowned Africans, including the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, however believe there is nothing excellent about African leaders for them to bear the title Excellency.
However, Founder and leader of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor who application forms to contest as Ghanas President was disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) in 2012, does not agree.
Speaking on Adom FM, the 1952 born self-confessed uneducated-farmer-turned-politician, insisted that she should be address as Her Excellency despite her disqualification in the presidential race in 2012. According to her, she was close to the presidency and could have been directing the affairs of this country but for her disqualification by the Electoral Commission (EC).
The hegemony he (President Mahama) is having, I also have the same powers. I was given the powers but just that I was disqualified so that doesnt make any difference. I still have that chance to be the next president of Ghana, she noted.
