The Nation Is Facing Challenging Moments... We Would Stop PPP From Demonstrating - Police Service

The Police administration, led by their Deputy Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has vowed to restrain the Progressive People’s Party from embarking on a demonstration even if it means seeking a court order.

From his view, though the leadership of the party might claim they would be embarking on a peaceful demonstration, the police is aware certain “bad guys” could infiltrate their action and cause problems for the nation.

It is for this reason DCOP Yohuno vowed on behalf of the Police Service not to grant them the green light.

Before the hearing of the 2012 presidential petition begun, the police administration placed a ban on all forms of demonstration with explanations that they have deployed their troops to provide security for the nation and for this reason, did not have enough men to provide security for demonstrators.

The election petition case is over and the leadership of PPP are looking forward to be given the green light by the police, to embark on their demonstration against corruption. They moved a step further to issue a statement, threatening the police to execute their agenda even if barred.

But in an interview with OKAY FM, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno explained why it would be fruitless to grant the PPP a go-ahead considering the challenging moments the nation is facing. According to him, before the hearing of the election petition begun, the Police Force came out with provisions to check and monitor events before and after the verdict.

This provision called for reinforcement in areas across the country where their troops would be needed.

He explained that this made it impossible for them to field men to offer protection to pressure groups seeking to demonstrate. He ended by disclosing that even if the Police is to go by their records and grant people who have petitioned them to go on demonstration, the PPP would realize that they are not the first on the police list.

“If we have to go by our order, everyone would see that PPP are not the first to request for this order. There are other groups like AFAG and when we asked them to postpone it, they understood and postponed it”, he said.
