Two outspoken Members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Amoako Tuffuor and Hon. Kofi Jumah have officially found their voices within the party, after being elected as members of the Ashanti Regional Executive Council, at a mini conference in Kumasi last Saturday.

The former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana School Feeding Programme and the ex-MP for Asokwa, both known notoriously for their outspoken nature in the party, were amongst leading members who were elected by popular acclamation to represent the region at the National Council (NC) of the party.

The two were selected alongside former Regional Chairman, Mr. Robert Yaw Amankwaah, defeated Regional Chairman aspirants and ex-MP for Nsuta Kwamang Beposo, Hon. Kwame Osei Prempeh and Chief Executive Officer of VitaMilk, Mrs. Janet Anane, as representatives for the region at the NC, which is the second highest decision making body of the party.

The Regional Secretary of the party, Hon. Samuel Pyne, Regional Treasurer, Hajia Zenabu Salifu, First Deputy Regional Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Rauf and Second Deputy Regional Chairperson, Maame Serwaa Derkyi, were also elected as four regional executive members to be part of the Council whilst Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, is an automatic member of the Council.

Their election follow several weeks of controversies over the mode of selection, after some leading members opposed move to arbitrarily select them without resorting to the party’s constitution. Article 7(d) of the party’s Constitution States that there should be a delegates’ conference to elect representatives to serve on the National Council.

The conference, which was held at the Centre for National Culture, was witnessed by the third Deputy National Chairman of the party, Mr. Frederick Freduah Antoh and other Members of Parliament of the party. Mr. Antoh in a speech, called for concerted effort on the part of all executives and supporters of the party to ensure victory in 2016.

He said victory in the next elections should be the pre-occupation of each and every member and therefore called on members to close their ranks and work towards ensuring power in 2016. The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka “Wontumi”, urged supporters to unite and focus on winning the 2016 elections.
