Mr Ernest Kusi Duah, 49, the Presiding Member of the Tano North District Assembly in the Brong-Ahafo, has picked nomination forms to contest the Tano North Constituency Parliamentary Primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Mr Gabriel Ankomah, the Constituency Secretary, only Mr Duah has so far picked the forms to contest with the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Mrs Freda Prempeh, who filed her nominations last Friday.
Mr Duah, a teacher by profession, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Duayaw-Nkwanta that though his intention to contest for the constituency seat was personal, NPP in the area required a unifier who could help address the current division in the constituency.
“Looking at the state of the party, we need a unifier who can bring together all members and supporters of the party together for an effective and intensified campaign, that would not only make the party retain the seat, but also win the presidential election as well,” he said.
Mr Duah said the internal wranglings and petty backbiting could affect the fortunes of the party, and advised delegates not to allow the impending primaries to bring division among them.
He emphasized that the NPP was built and established on principles of democracy, and advised the leadership to respect its internal structures, and give equal opportunities for qualified and interested members to contest in the upcoming primaries.
Mr Duah also entreated leadership at all levels against favouritism and partiality, that could bring divisions and affect the fortunes of the party in the 2016 general elections.
