Former President Jerry John Rawlings is advocating for a radical pulling down of buildings constructed on waterways as a first step towards solving the perennial floods in the capital.
He blamed the illegal structures for last night's wreckage that came after the torrential rains.
More than 100 people have lost their lives due to the floods and a fire incident which happened at Circle, in Accra.
The ex-president who was touring Circle where a gas explosion left scores dead blamed the lack of enforcement of building regulations and safety measures for the extensive loss of lives and property.
"I wish I had a bulldozer" the former leader told journalists in Accra.
