A former accountant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who was sacked for selling nomination forms to a presidential aspirant has sued the party.

The disgruntled accountant, Mathias Mokono Wilson is demanding an amount of GHc175,150.50 in damages and loss.

Joined to the suit are the NDC’s General Secretary, Johnson Aseidu Nketia, Director of Elections, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, and three others. Mr. Mokono argue in his writ, dated Frebruary 10, 2016, that the NDC breached their employment agreement which mandates the party to give dismissed workers three months notice or payments in lieu. According to him his monthly salary was GHc 3,574.50.

He however wants the court to also order the NDC to pay him his annual leave which he forfeited in the 23 years he worked as an accountant for the party. Mr. Mokono said he takes a salary of GHc 3,574.50 and that amount multiplied by three months notice in lieu and further multiplied by his 23-year annual leave and further multiplied two will amount to GHc 175,150.50.

Particulars of loss and damage demanded by Mokono

Loss of leave for 23 years

Loss of gross salary at GHc3,574.50 per month multiplied by 3 months in lieu of notice.

Background:

The NDC in September 2015 sanctioned Mr. Mokono for selling presidential nomination forms to one, George Boateng who was seeking to challenge President Mahama for the flagbearersip slot.

George Boateng after piking up the forms was told by the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia that they were fake since it does not have his seal.

“We indicated that the forms must be picked from the General Secretary of the party…Since our staff has been mentioned in this whole saga, we have taken firm administrative measures against them. So those members of our staff who were pretending to be General Secretaries have been sanctioned and you will not see them in this office working again,” said Asiedu Nketia.
