On July 16, 2016, the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) would outdoor Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, as their presidential candidate for the November 7 polls.
Two other aspirants aside Dr. Ndoum picked up forms to contest the flagbearership slot but failed to go through the nomination and vetting process successfully and this was disclosed by the party’s National Chairman, Nii Allotey Brew Hammond on Peace FM.
This would be the second time Dr. Ndoum would be leading the PPP after breaking away from the Convention People’s Party. during the 2012 elections, the PPP led by Dr. Nduom polled 64,362 votes to emerge as a third force political party in Ghana.
At a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, it was announced that the PPP arrived at the decision after the National Committee of the party met and agreed to a program of action that will enable the party become strong and a formidable winning political brand in Ghana for this year’s General Elections.
The party is also is preparing to capture seats in Parliament and Mr. Brew Hammond believes “we need PPP members in Parliament to champion this change agenda and reduce heightened tensions that could weaken the nation’s democratic credentials”.
According to him, from now till the end of June 2016, PPP will continue with the confirmation of its parliamentary candidates.
