Fifty-eight chiefs in the Ashanti region have unanimously declared their support for flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, indicating they are ready for the consequences. According to them, although similar endorsements over the years has caused the region under-development, that will not stop them from endorsing Nana Akufo-Addo.
The chiefs announced their endorsement through the senior traditional leader, Nana Yaw Owusu, who indicated that due to the voting pattern in the region, which has favoured the NPP over the years, the John Mahama-led government has not been fair to the region in terms of development.
This, he says, would not stop them from voting for Nana Akufo-Addo. Nana Yaw Owusu who is the Mpaboahene said although chiefs and traditional leaders are barred from actively engaging in partisan politics, they believe that issues bothering on development is of prime concern to them; hence their open declaration for the NPP. The chiefs who had gathered to receive the NPP flagbearer cheered and applauded the declaration which also got party supporters shouting with enthusiasm.
Nana Akufo Addo began his campaign of the Ashanti region on Wednesday which would see him focus on constituencies which have consistently voted for the NDC although they are in the stronghold of the NPP.

Ashante Chiefs it's a very big shame. How more about we the young men and women who are to learn from our cheifs good morals? Anyway any of these bigs and sheep cannot convince any reasonable or any well meaning Ghanaian to VOTE for Nana Addo. This is just pure tribal POLITICS by people who suppose to be reasonable and to avoid doing politics. Pigs and sheep they are with no sense of purpose.
The Ultramordern Kejetia Complex, 37 military no. 2, the various SHS projects, Tepa hospiotal, completed Sofoline interchange, the Kumawhu water projects, etc. and you say John Maham has not been fair to you. I blame Maham since he wants to impress you and relegate his country men, has he seen what they are tellin him now. By the way since u have now told us you will not change your vote pattern no matter what, w in the north advice ourselves. Very inward looking people. If it is Nana Yaw Owusu of Akopa fame then he should give us break. This guy run down a shell fuel station at Abrepo junction in Kumasi and was booted out. How credible is such a person? And what Chiefs is he talking about? He is a known NPP activist who dabble in politics all the time. Ask him what happened to his spot Akonuansa? A very use..less person. I dare him to come out and deny this.
