In the face of police inertia in solving the post election attacks, political party leaders have taken to the media issuing threats and counter threats of violence.
On Thursday it was the Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress Kofi Portuphy who asked supporters of the losing party to defend themselves if they are attacked by rampaging supporters of the New Patriotic Party.
Mr Portuphy was incensed by what he said was the needless unprovoked attacks on their members by the supporters of the NPP soon after last week's elections.
He chronicled what he said were attacks on supporters and sympathisers of the governing party and named a popular Comedian Wofa K, Musician Mzbel, some Ministers of state who he said were attacked by the NPP youth.
Some of the attacks, particularly, the one on Wofa K have been reported as a hoax to court public sympathy.
But the NDC chair said the governing party will no longer entertain any such attacks without fighting back.
His comments have since been justified by the deputy General Secretary of the party Koku Anyido and National Organiser of the party Kofi Adams.
Speaking to Joy News, controversial MP for Assin North Kennedy Agyapong said the NDC party chairman will be the first to fall if there is violence.
Mr Agyapong condemned the attacks said to have been perpetrated by NPP supporters on their NDC counterparts and confirmed that one of the members of the vigilante group who took over the Toll Booth at the Tema end of the Motorway on Monday works for him.
The NPP MP said he "blasted" his boy and warned him that if he broke the law, the law will deal with him.
Kennedy Agyapong will however not forgive the NDC chairman should violence break out in Ghana on account of his comment. "If NPP people are attacking NDC people it should stop. I don't subscribe to that. It should stop. We do not need that in this country.
"Yesterday for instance I went on air to condemn what the guys did at the toll booth. I am surprised the NDC chairman came out with such press conference.
"If he tries anything, i will give one command and he will be the first person to go down. That one i assure him.
"He cannot cause riot and go scot free," he said.

but people can burn down toll boots and get away with it? some of us voted against lack of discretion
look at the actions of people coming to rule Ghana from January. Instead of calling for the attacks to stop they are rather attacking the one calling for people to defend themselves from senseless attacks. The country is divided in the middle and it calls for sober minds not militancy. in 2009, Mills did everything to cool NDC supporters, the beginning of Mills & JJ problems started from there where JJ wanted Mills to use the state apparatus to go after the NPP. The world goes round and we are all here in Ghana
Even his face speaks violence and anyidoho and others are there laughing to such ins**anity talk. NDC will forever be in opposition cos of arrogance
"defend ur self and when u survive u report to the police", how can a leader talk so chaep like this so the NDC supporters who will follow what he is saying the question is what if u dont survive?, will portuphy give u braeth of life or if u get an arm broke will he pay ur hospital bills. Lets be wise enough and condem this and not to allow cheap politicians like this rule us cos they wanted violence and it will only hapeen between their own selves and Koku and portophy will start it. cheap talk
This press conference by NDC is baseless. With the exception of the Fiapre toll booth, Ashiaman end toll booth, Ekumfi and some town in the Western region, the NDC & the press especially Daily Graphic should mention the places where NPP supporters are destroying state properties or beating NDC supporters. I feel the Police and the press have over blown it. It is a failed strategy by opponents of the NPP.
PORTORPHY, BE WISE SMALLL. YOU ARE MATURE ENOUGH TO THINK BETTER THAN THIS. THINK... THINK...
NDC youth should listen to the later part of the video,"Defend your slef and when you survive you report to the police"thus an insane statement.Lets all condemn it
Please, please NDC, be alive and realistic. Violence has no direction as to who will be safe once it bursts out. Just accept the neat election results and save you and the entourage of your party the hypertension. Please be alive and accept the overwhelming election results. Be alive, please
This is face saving press conference. You people has failed your supporters big time and you are there issuing treats. Boss go back to the drawing board and look at what cause your defeat. Formulate strategies that would hold your party intact and not this empty treats.
