Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie is appealing to government to grant former President John Mahama’s request to keep his official bungalow.
According to him, the former president is entitled to a house as part of his end of service benefit thus will support any decision to allow him stay in his official residence as he so wishes.
Sir John as he is popularly called made the comment following the request of Mr. Mahama to be allowed to say in his official bungalow.
A December 19, 2016 letter signed by the former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah said John Mahama would like the incoming administration to give him the "No 3, Prestige Link, Cantonment together with the adjoining facilities as his official retirement home."
By law, the country is expected to house its ex-presidents but it does not allow the ex-president to stay in the house he occupied before handing over. This request has made many critics angry some of whom have cited the law and previous national events as their defence.
However, it has emerged that President Akufo-Addo has granted the request in flagrant violation of the country's laws.
But Sir John said, though the decision is unpopular, it is in the interest of the state.

Sir John, please if all Heads of State decides to maintain their official residence very soon all properties in those prime locations will be full. THINK ABOUT PROXIMITY HERE. You want a president to travel from Abokobi or Michel Camp to work everyday in future????????
In the clear light of "Rule of Law" I posit that president Akufo Ado should give us every reason not to doubt His uncompromising stance in upholding and enforcing same. Please Mr. President don't allow yourself to be compromised by sycophants at all. Ghana first before even very self. Former President can wait in Dubai till the alternative accommodation is arranged, even that should be after Mr. Kuffuor has been attended to. Remember your 8yrs destiny resides with we the voters nd not the hypocrites. Live long President Akufo Ado
President Nana Addo is that the way you want to behave.. let me tell you point blank, if u want, u can even appoint those corrupt former ministers from Mahama's government to form your government, we are counting the days n its tricking. we campaigned for u n now u the same incorruptible person, you've allowed your self to be infected by approving a state owned property to the former president. how!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Give the property to Mahama and that will be the beginning of the end for NPP. NPP. Please dont make that mistake
NPPP, NPPP, NPP, POLITICIANS REALLY DONT READ ABOUT THE MOOD OF ITS CITIZENS. AM VERY DISAPOINTED FOR VOTING FOR NPP, WHY SHOULD U EVEN GIVE IT A CONSIDERATION TO THINK ABT IT. IS MAHAMA NOT HAVING A HOUSE.
I totally disagree with Sir John. Kuffour was not given any state accommodation by these ev1l NDC govt. Also Mahama cannot decide the house he wants to stay, it is the state that will provide for him. He must move out period.
What will be president akuffo addo's stance if most municipal chief executives decide to buy off their official bungalows.? The day Pres Akuffo Add endorses this act of corruption is the day I lose interest in him (Nana addo) to be a great leader. After all he may not be as incorruptible as he made us to know
WHY? SIR JOHN, HAVE YOU BEEN GIVEN YOUR PART OF WOYOME,S MONEY? PLEASE THIS IS FAR BELOW THE BELT SO GO BACK AND COME AGAIN.
Same squad who kept us in opposition 2012 are here to cause uproar. Nana Addo is not immune to a one term presidency. He listens to cohorts like this at his own peril. We don't need him to put money in our pockets, all we seek is justice and equal opportunities. The ball is in his court.
Sir john, are u kidding me, a whole lawyer making these statements. Don't u follow due process? Have u read the transition act? We have all these people as lawyers in gh. Apuutu.
