Acting General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has vowed to stage a 'one-man demo' against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo if he allows former President John Dramani Mahama to keep his Cantonments official residence as part of his retirement package.
According to him, the President "must not allow" any such move whatsoever, since the NDC-led government denied Ex-President Kufour similar benefits.
In an interview on NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie', he said he will speak against the move if Nana Addo’s led government accept Mahama’s request.
Former President John Dramani Manama is reported to have requested to be allowed to retain his official bungalow he occupied as Vice President and later President as his ex gratia.
A member of the NDC's Transition Team, Hannah Tetteh reportedly told the media yesterday that Parliament has already given the 'all-clear' signal to the former President to owe the residential facility as part of his end of service benefit – but Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who speaks for the new government's side of the transition team and also MP for Ofoase-Ayirebi, stressed there was a request from President John Mahama, asking permission to keep the residence but a decision had not been reached.
A December 19, 2016 letter signed by the former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah said John Mahama would like the incoming administration to give him the "No 3, Prestige Link, Cantonment together with the adjoining facilities as his official retirement home."
This request has made many critics angry some of whom have cited the law and previous national events as their defence.
The Presidential Transition (Amendment) Act 2016 states the outgoing President is required to vacate his official bungalow one month before swearing-in of the new President. If he fails to do so, the Administrator General is empowered to forcefully evict him.
Two days after the swearing-in the ex-president is yet to vacate the premises only for the December 19 letter to be made public.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah disclosed that, "in the shortest possible time", the new government will take a decision on the request made by former President Mahama.
But even before the dust could settle on that brouhaha, Founder and former President of the African University College of Education, Kojo Yankah has called on the Akufo-Addo-led administration not to endorse the action saying "The precedence is dangerous and should not be allowed to stand."
However, John Boadu fear the request if granted could inflame passions among the electorates who secured victory for the party in the December 7 polls.

THERE ARE TOO MANY SMALL MINDED GHANAIANS IN THIS COUNTRY WHO ONLY REASON WITH THEIR HEART AND PARTY LOYALTY.WHAT IS WRONG IS WRONG.WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE ARE WE?NO WONDER AFRICA HAS SO MANY DICTATORS BECOS WHATEVER DEEDS THEY COMMIT THEY WILL GET SOME SMALL MINDED PEOPLE TO DEFEND THEM.
Nana remember you were their message that u were still living in your father's house at your age. Now he is younger n has money, let him find his own house n in due time the state will offer him the house he's due
I would like to kindly enquire from The Ex President Mahama, where ex vice president was lodging all these while since from the look of things the ex vice President was not staying in his alloted residence since 2014.
I think we should ask or find out what the law says about accommodation for any out going Ghanaian President and what it entails. Hope Mr Boadu know better than this. Even the statement from the office Prez Kuffour's office should tell us that JM is entitled a houses by the state. I knew a permanent residence is being built by the NDC government for subsequent Vic Presidents at switchback road which is almost complete. Bawumia should stay at where former vice president Paakwesi stayed since he had vacated is for Bawumia. To me I think we let it go since if JM leave that house Bawumia can not live in that house for four years and our taxes will be use to build a new house ex president Mahama which could be more costly than he taking that old house, he had use for eight years now. We should not forget that he is not buying or it's not a gift from Nana but a retirement benefits from the state. Also like someone said earlier, we should be careful what do and say today because Ghanaians are watching. Thanks
Ex Prez Mahama, with all due respect should have a sense of statesmanship and selfless leader. How on earth will u disrespect the laws of the land and overstayed the official residence after voted into the office of Prez and after voting out of office and still got the gad to apply for same property as your personal residence. Perception of corruption engulfed your administration n it seems to becoming becoming normal n nature. Pls Mr. Mahama, for the sake of the office and Ghana retract the application to safe your name, the office of prez, NDC party, your family N Ghana. What is it that you need after all the privileges the people of Ghana gave you n all you pay is back is to grab state property in the form of residence? I think u're are setting a VERY BAD precedence. Please think of GHANA. Thank u n God Bless you.
MAY GOD PUNISH ALL NPP MEMBERS WHO TOOK CONTRACTS AND MONEY FROM JM AND HIS BROTHERAND ARE NOW ACTING LIKE THEY ARE THE DEVIL. I WONT MENTION NAMES
I couldn't agree with you more.Political maturity is what we all need. The President shouldn't cave in to party political presures like how President Mahama did in Montie 3. We have only two past presidents to provide accommodation for.I don't think this is beyond us or is it?
100% supportive of John Boadu. he is truely speaking like a true patriots. we need such bold people in the governance of npp. Nana addo should be mindful that Ghanaians are watching and should he allow mahama to stay in the bungalow, then NPP LOSSES THE 2020 ELECTIONS. BY ACCEPTING MAHAMA'S REQUEST THEN NPP LED BY NANA ADDO IS CONDONING ON CORRUPTION.
if Nana Addo also choose to the Jubilee House as his package what will Ghanaian's say? These states men have worked and need to buy their own houses after all we housed & feed them all. what did He (JM) do with all his salary? Enough of that ***barred word*** state properties
John Boadu and other NPP members need to learn a lot from Mahama. Ghana's politics must change for us to move forward. After handing over to Nana, he (JDM) has asked all Ghanaians to give Nana all the support he needed. Why do you want to by all means pay JDM back tit for tit. If the old man (JAK) has not been given his bungalow it only adds to two. Nana addo should see to it that he gets what is due him as well as JDM. Ghana needs to move forward from this 'you do me I do you' behavior.
