The Minority in Parliament has chastised the Akufo-Addo administration for allegedly sacking workers recruited under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government as well as stopping the recruitment of over 8,600 nurses, all totaling about 9,639 workers.
According to the minority, Ghanaians are even more disconcerted that some of the very first steps taken by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government have served to render thousands of Ghanaian youth, lawfully employed under the NDC government, jobless.
Presenting what it described as the “true” state of the nation address a day after President Akufo-Addo delivered a message on the state of the nation; the minority stressed the President has already started on a wrong note in job creation.
Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu who read a statement from his side, said the President’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) was particularly scanty on employment, a major issue on which the NPP rode to power.
“Beyond the repetition of campaign mantra and slogans, no concrete plan to tackle the issue was discernible from the President’s speech. This vague policy platform with regards to job creation must be a source of worry for the teeming unemployed youth of Ghana,” the minority stated.
The minority has presented the breakdown of the job losses below:
“In the first month of this government, 205 employees of the National Service Scheme have been unceremoniously dismissed on very flimsy and clearly partisan considerations.
110 middle level staff of COCOBOD in lawful employment have also been dismissed for no apparent reason.
8,634 Nurses who had received financial clearance and had been employed in various public health institutions have been thrown out of their jobs by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.
265 Police recruits who had reached advanced stages of training have had their dreams of entering the police service crushed by an unreasonable decision to dismiss them.
525 National Security personnel have also been shown the exit and asked to go home by this government.
This represents a clear slap in the face of jobless Ghanaian youth and would further deepen their anxiety and desperation. It further marks an unforgivable betrayal of the many unemployed youth who voted for the NPP on the basis of tantalizing promises to give them jobs.”

What a miracle by the NDC!A government which could not employ 100 people in 8 Year because of lack of funds and IMF conditions, all of a sudden managed to employ over 11,000 people in just one month when they were exiting power. Where did they get the budget line to employ? Did they get clearance from IMF? Did they employ qualified people, or just job for the orphans they were leaving behind? Well, NPP did not sack the people, because these people were not in employment when they came. The NDC promised them non-existing jobs and most were not qualified. Those not qualified or impersonated others to get such dubious jobs should be prosecuted immediately. If they have paid money toget the 'jobs', they should tell us for the police to pursue those fraudsters. NDC, thrives on propaganda, whether they are in government or in opposition. What a pity! But tell the NDC, Ghanaians are wide awake and have become privy to their tricks.
Ndc and their lies....what are these people made off...they are just too satanic..what is this..8,600 nurses?..ffoolish people, may God let u be in opposition for 16yrs
