Seasoned journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has described homosexuality as a "lunatic behaviour" that should not be entertained at all in Ghana.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" Wednesday, Kweku Baako stated emphatically that he will not retract his description because he doesn't understand how a person could sexually desire someone from the same sex.

"I describe homosexuality as a lunatic behaviour. My personal view and I want to quote myself...when it comes to these things, I am illiberal. I don't think we should do anything to promote that lunatic behaviour.

"...I'm not progressive when it comes to these things. I'm highly conservative. I'm against homosexuality," he said.

He however came to the defense of President Nana Akufo-Addo who has come under a barrage of criticisms over his response on the issue of homosexuality in an interview on Al Jazeera.

President Akufo-Addo, delivering his submissions on the issue, noted that homosexuality is not on the agenda of his government; however legalization of the act is "bound to happen" should there be a strong coalition to push for its legislation.

According to Kweku Baako, "the President was right in his response" but his comments does not mean his administration is receptive to legalizing homosexuality.

He said the President was responding to a question posed to him and he reflected the constitutional provisions of the country.

However, an Aspiring National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan is opposed to the views by Kweku Baako.

To him, it was "unnecessary" for the President to have given such a response over the issue.

He stated that it was not in the place of the President to offer a loophole for the homosexual community.

He explained that, by virtue of what President Akufo-Addo said on Al Jazeera on the matter, "he seems to have showed how homosexuality could be pushed by its proponents towards its legalization."
