Former National Security Adviser, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo Mensah is surprised with governments decision to reverse the official name of the seat of government from the Flagstaff House to Jubilee House and has thus described it as a misplaced priority on the part of the Akufo Addo led government.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo gave a hint of the name change when he addressed a meeting with the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs at the presidency on Wednesday.
The name of the building has been a bone of contention between the New Patriotic Party(NPP), and the National Democratic Congress(NDC) for the past decade depending on which party is in government.
When the current administration took power in January 2017, it was unclear whether the government will maintain the current name (Flagstaff House) or reverse it.
The contemplation is likely to be put to rest now because according to President Akufo Addo, the name will be reversed to Jubilee House soon.
But former National Security Adviser, Brig. Gen. Nunoo Mensah in an interview with host of Gold Power Drive, Samuel Eshun, thinks there are more pressing issues to be taken care off by the government than prioritizing a name change.
He is of the view that renaming the edifice from Flagstaff to Jubilee House will not put food on the table of Ghanaians, and that government must rather prioritize the falling living condition of the populace.
‘’I am sitting down in my room this morning thinking about where to find my next food. A man who was twice chief of defense staff, if am hungry at this moment what about the ordinary Ghanaian down there. My heart bleads if I hear some of this issues like changing of name from Flagstaff House to Jubilee House, Founders Day, etc. There are real issues we should be talking about as a nation’’.
He has therefore suggested to the government to build a new edifice and name it Jubilee House if it really wants one than the current practice of renaming existing ones.
‘’No.10 Downing Street is No. 10 Downing Street. You can’t change White House and call it another name. The government should stop this debate and get on with the real job. It is a debate we shouldn’t have time for at this time’’.
It will be recalled that the Akufo Addo government has renamed the Tamale Sports Stadium, the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa, amongst others since it assumed power.

this is on one of the stup1>d elders and so-called stateman we have. how can we move forward as a country when one have old men who only thinks from one side of their brains. when the ndc changed the name, it was not an issue but now u see something wrong with it. by the way what will it take to change names? is it not common pen and paper? u can choose to call it flagstaff house and let us call it jubilee house that doesnt change anything. u shd have told the ndc to build a new edifice and name it flagstaff house instead of using all their efforts to change the name of something npp built. the way he talked as if it was the ndc who built the edifice. he must be ashamed of himself for that comment.
I am disapointed in this Statesman I respect so much. Is he now suggesting that when the NDC reversed the name back to Flagstaff House, the country was not bedeviled with any problems. And that when the decision was taken to change the name, that action put food on the table of Ghanaians. At times when our elders get access to the media they should....
If Gen. N Mensah thinks Ghana is too hot for him he should take his passport and fly awayyyyyy
Baldadash: I meant that!!!
"He has therefore suggested to the government to build a new edifice and name it Jubilee House if it really wants one than the current practice of renaming existing ones". This is a very s.tu.pid suggestion, if you ask me.
***barred word*** from the disgraced Brigadier-General. What name was originally given to the edifice by the builder? Was it Jubilee House or the Colonial flagstaff House. Is that where the flagstaff is occupying? or you don't understand the word "flagstaff"? It is the Jubilee House because it was built in the year of our Jubilee (when we were celebrating 50 years of our independence). Why can't you these diabolic ndc guys understand this simple issue? Aaabah!!!
Nunoo Mensah is a sttuppidd man and a ***barred word*** Charlattan and misguided personality. All these people call themselves advisors. Your party did a similar thing and you did not have problem with it so why now?
Why did Mahama change Nkrumah circle to Dubai?
Truth is that NDC is the luckiest political party in Ghana. They are able to use their patapaa and aturuturuas3m to get and to do whatever they want, and nobody dares challenge them. NDC always prides itself as the most militant party and so they always put fear in Ghanaians to always have their way. And NDC thinks they have the most hooligans and so they can do what they like. For instance during elections they put the fear of war into Ghanaians to always get their way. That is the simple truth about NDC as a party. They can change a name, but NPP cannot. NDC is the spoilt child political party in Ghana. God have mercy.
Hypocracy at its maximum!!! You kept mute when your people changed the name from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House. Why are you talking now? Did you build it? Please, keep quiet and let's think!!!
