One person has been confirmed dead at the Ashanti Regional headquarters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), while two others sustained serious injuries after a free-for-all gunfight ensued during a top-brass meeting.
The meeting between the National Executives of the party turned bloody when an unidentified gunmen from rival factions, stormed the premises of the venue and fired into the gathering.
PeaceFM's and UTV's Senior Correspondent for the Ashanti Region, Sampson K. Nyamekye, who was at the scene, reports that in the process Wassiu Iddris, an NDC activist lost his life, while Abdul Issa and a yet-to-be identified NDC member, are on admission at the intensive care unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Sampson Nyamekye further reported that the assailants have escaped whilst security presence has been tightened at the regional headquarters.
According to him, the meeting which was being chaired by the party's General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, was to address some misunderstanding between the Regional Chairman of the party, Nana Kwasi and another party stalwart, Joseph Yamin.
" . . party officers including Johnson Asiedu Nketiah (General Secretary), Ofosu-Ampofo (National Chairman) and Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh, took to their heels when gun shots were fired . . . disrupting the meeting . . . ," he recounted.
Details are still sketchy as to what led to the shots being fired, but the police has commenced investigations into the matter.

OYIWA, NOW IT IS BECOMING CLEARER WHO CAUSED WWA ELECTION MELEE. GOD WILL FOREVER BE GRAT. NDC, ITS PARLIAMENTARIANS AND MAHAMA SHOULD BOW DOWN THEIR HEAD IN SHAME
ALL THESE TH-EI-VES WILL DIE IN VA-IN, THEY WERE MEETING TO FIND A WAY TO RIG THE IN COMING ELECTIONS FOR J MAHAMA, AND OTHER PEOPLE FROM OTHERS CONTESTANTS DON'T LIKE IT, SO NDC STARTS FIGHTING OVER THEIR RIGGING PLAN. ACCORDING TO YAWMOA PONKO HE SAID SHOOTERS WERE IN THE NDC PARTY OFFICE LAUGHING TOGETHER, HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT CAME TO THEM. ONE STARTS SHOOTING. SO WHY NDC BLAMING GAMING.
This is infantile to fanthom.........If this happened at Kumasi and the assailant is unknown.....Then i smell a big rat........ This is the handywork of that clueless, illiterate chairman of an apology Wontumi!!! If our police force were really up to the task.....Anyway the truth will definitely come out...even if it takes forever!!! Politics in Ghana which use to be a nice game we all enjoy, is turning into something else!!! Why Ghana why??
ALAHO AKUBADO, GOD IS GREAT. REMEMBER THE STORY OF ABIMELECH. HE PERPETUATED VIOLENCE AND HE AND ALL HIS SUPPORTERS WERE CONSUMED BY VIOLENCE. GOD IS IN CONTROL AND THOSE WHO AGITATE FOR THE USE OF VIOLLE WILL DIE VIOLENTLY.
The word is ‘scot-free’. Honestly Ghanaians need to go out and read more and not just write posts and use words because they ‘heard’ them. Check out the spelling and meaning and then use the word.
Mr Mahama, call the diplomats and brief them.See, you cannot disgrace Nana Addo and go scotch free.He is blessed!
I expect the NDC parliamentarians to organize press conference immediately
SINCE THEY SAY UNIDENTIFIED GUNMEN, THEY SECURITY AGENCIES SHOULD DO THOROUGH INVESTIGATIONS. I WANT TO BELIEVE IT IS THE NPP WHO DID THIS JUST TO EQUALIZE THE AYAWASO WEST WUOGON EMBARASSMENT.
