The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has arguably claimed that the number of children enrolled in Senior High Schools under the reign of the late President Atta Mills was more than the number of students who have been enrolled in schools since the introduction of the Free SHS Policy by President Akufo-Addo.
He explained that when former President John Agyekum Kufuor introduced the four-year education system in the Senior High Schools, the total number of schools available then for the implementation of that new policy could cater for three years and that made it difficult for those coming from the JHS to join in the next academic year, and so it took the late President Mills to build school blocks in all the available secondary schools in the country to cater for the JHS graduates.
“ . . we built extra classroom blocks throughout the country in all the existing SHSs . . . we admitted more children in secondary schools than the number admitted under Akufo-Addo's Free SHS Policy . . . check the figures, but we didn’t noise about it,” he asserted.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the NDC General Secretary said the challenge with the free Senior High School policy is about the management of the policy and not the educational system.
“Did you hear any parent complaining that their children didn’t get access to school in September when we took over the four-year policy from former President Kufuor?” he rhetorically asked.
He was of the view that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a political party does not believe in free education and free health as a member of the neoliberals in the world; thus, the implementation of the free Senior High School has not been successful due to the fact the NPP does not believe in it.
“If someone is implementing a policy which his party does not believe in, but for mere votes from the citizens, he will be exposed during the implementation stage. All over the world, the neoliberals which NPP is part of do not believe in free education. Peter McManu had been their Vice President before as I am the Vice President of Socialist International; they don’t believe in free education, free health but when they came and realized that such policies will give them votes, then they adopt it, but during the implementation, they are being exposed,” he asserted.

The mosquito and his usual propaganda... Animguase ni.
You do. That's alright.
And what is this cockroach saying? Does he believe in Free SHS than the one who muted the idea and actually started its implementation? Does this man have brains at all? No wonder he has his wife and children living in Canada so they do not hear his sen>>less effusions to the Ghanaian people. Should they hear him, I bet they will denounce him as father and husband, Sharp!!
kaku you are very right but the truth is what His Excellency, Vice Prez Dr. Bawumia said: NDC members do not read. If you do not read and do not have facts, how can you provide figures to back your claims. that is why they are propagandists because all issues they raise are not based on facts but by a figment of their imagination. Policy and developmental issues are not based on imaginations, but on properly thought out plans. No wonder they find it difficult facing Dr. Bawumia alone why he starts churning out his well researched facts and figures to back all his claims. all they do is to attack his personality but the substance of his submissions. What a worthless party we have in opposition.
That is NDC for you. They never give out figures to support their arguments. Just sweeping statements as if the rest of the people are illiterates. And he wants to be a Vice-President. What a half-baked educated individual he is.
Asiedu Nketia, you have become so irrelevant in Ghanaian politics. I am commenting from the headline because I never read anything coming from your outfit and I know a lot more of people who do same. Your claimed target audience which are the illiterates are been reduced via Free SHS and Social media. Only in NDC will you continuously be maintained as a General Secretary. Sir John tried same with NPP and they kicked him out
Either there's something we need to check about Asiedu Nketia or I don't know what. How can you say you "admitted MORE students into SHS" than the current government is doing? When your 100,000 students each year who were not entering are NOW entering? What's wrong with the NDC? Today the number has been so huge that there was the need for a double track system, and you have the COURAGE to say you admitted MORE? Ah, NDC!
This man is still dreaming in his sleep. You should back your arguement with figures for Ghanaians to understand your argue
I now beleive this man is confused. indeed, he doesnt understand propaganda and how to woe people. This infantile and abosolutely rubbish.
