The international credit rating agency, Moody’s, has reaffirmed Ghana's long-term issuer and senior unsecured bond ratings at B3 and changed the outlook from stable to positive.
A statement issued by Moody’s on Friday, January 24, 2020 stated that “Moody’s Investors Service (Moody’s) has today reaffirmed the government of Ghana’s long-term issuer and senior unsecured bond ratings at B3 and changed the outlook to positive from stable”.
The statement continues that, “the decision to assign a positive outlook reflects Moody's rising confidence that the country's institutions and policy settings will foster improved macroeconomic and fiscal stability over the medium term, in part as a consequence of the reforms implemented under the recent IMF reform programme."
Reacting to this on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', a member of the Communication Team of the NDC, Nasiru Mohammed said the fact that the ruling government was scored B3 does not mean 'we should sing their praises'.
"We cannot sing your praises with just B3+. B3+ is not an upgrade, it’s a change in outlook. Upgrade is what John Mahama achieved in 2012, 2013, 2014. If you ask the ordinary Ghanaian the difference between John Mahama’s administration and the current administration, they will tell you that they were comfortable during Mahama’s administration," he said.
