The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are engaged in a back-and-forth exchange of accusations regarding vote buying in the lead-up to the Assin North by-election scheduled for Tuesday, June 27.
The National Communication Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, has accused the NPP of purchasing votes by allegedly providing fertilisers and state-owned knapsack sprayers to voters.
In response, the National Communications Director of the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, has alleged that the opposition party has established depots in Assin North to distribute goodies in order to entice potential voters.
NDC
Expressing his views on Facebook, Mr Gyamfi stated, "Corrupt NPP government desperately seeking to buy votes in Assin North with state-owned knapsack sprayers and fertilizers.
Consignment currently en route to Ningo, Gangan, Ayittey and other NDC strongholds."
Furthermore, Mr Gyamfi claimed that high-ranking members of the NPP, including NPP National Chairman, Stephen Ntim and General Secretary, Justin Kodua, were orchestrating the party's vote-buying efforts.
He also shared videos as evidence, alleging the misuse of taxpayers' money by the ruling NPP government for election purposes.
NPP
Similarly, Mr Ahiagbah shared a one-minute video on Facebook that depicted individuals having their names called out before being handed a machete and items in polythene bags.
Alongside the video, he posted: "Here is one of the sharing depots of the National Democratic Congress.
Now, watch them deny and point false accusing fingers at others after doing this.
The NPP is focused and canvassing for the votes we need for victory on June 27th."
The Assin North Constituency seat became vacant following a Supreme Court ruling that resulted in the removal of James Gyakye Quayson from parliamentary proceedings due to his dual citizenship status. Consequently, a by-election will be held to fill the vacant seat.

Ghana politics is becoming something. For development to get to people you have to lose your member of parliament to enable a bye election take place. There and then you will see roads, electricity, water, school blocks been constructed all over the constituency. If you are lucky you will get a motorbike, cutlass, Willington boots, your wife will get a basin, half piece cloth, slippers, a pack of maggi cubes, salt, 'keta school boys', exercise books for your children. MP's from rural constituencies should be very prayerful. The people will soon be looking for people who are seriously sick to vote for as their MP's hoping that they won't last long in parliament during their tenure. 2 or 3 bye elections in a constituency in a matter of 4 years can bring about massive development in rural constituencies. Very soon parliament will become unattractive, why for a whole constituency to wish their MP dead to trigger development in their areas can be most likely. Can you imagine 20, 000 people praying for their MP to die? God may grant their wish looking at the huge numbers calling on him. Every step you take in this world has implications. If you throw a ball at the wall it definitely bounces back to you. The very yam you roast to eat is the very yam that will make your mouth black. If you plant corn, you harvest corn, you can't harvest rice. When you plant a tree with the intention of enjoying it's fruits in future, you water it continuously. You don't plant a tree and abandon it for years and when you feel like enjoying a fruit, you now move to where you planted the tree thinking you will get fresh fruits to eat/enjoy, it doesn't work that way. You will go and meet a dry tree. This is what so called politicians in Ghana have failed to realize. If you abandon your wife for 3 years, no food, no chop money, you don't even ask of her. One day your manhood starts to worry you.You now decide to go to her with all the goodies to spend the night. If she's a woman of value, she will turn you away with all your goodies. Go and pass the night with your goodies. Hmmmnnn
