The withdrawal of Alan Kyerematen from the flagbearership race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has garnered mixed reactions from his campaign team with some expressing disappointment and others questioning the reason behind the withdrawal.
Sylvester Tetteh, the Coordinator of the Alan Kyerematen campaign in the Greater Accra Region, spoke out about their disappointment while also reaffirming their loyalty to the NPP.
Tetteh stated that although they believed Kyerematen was the best candidate to lead both the party and the country, they respected his decision to withdraw.
He assured the public that despite this setback, they would continue to support the NPP and he will soon be making announcement about who he will be supporting among the remaining four candidates in the NPP presidential race.
“It’s true that we are disappointed. All of us who have been part of the campaign, it’s a difficult moment for us. Our wish was that Alan Kyerematen would lead our party and subsequently become President of the Republic. But the most important thing is that we have life. The party is bigger than any individual,” Tetteh said during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen programme.
Kyerematen, who had emerged third in the super delegates conference that narrowed down the aspirants to five, cited the intimidation of his supporters and the absence of a level-playing field for all candidates as the reasons for his withdrawal.
These accusations have raised concerns among political observers, who argue that Kyerematen’s withdrawal could have negative implications for the NPP.
As of now, it remains to be seen what Kyerematen’s next move in Ghana’s politics will be. However, his withdrawal has undoubtedly created a significant impact on the NPP and its future direction.

Am for NPP .However i feel sad that a party stalwart like Allan will withdraw from the party's primaries for reasons that does not sound pleasing to the ear. The 2024 elections will be the most difficult elections in the fourth republic. NPP's insistence on 'breaking the 8" vrs John Mahama's insistence on staging a come back to the presidency. To the NPP every single vote should matter if they have to hit target. When Allan Kyeremantin's representative from the north east was flown to Accra for treatment after an alleged assault on him, i expected the national chairman and general secretary to have visited the said gentleman at the hospital where he was admitted, the most important thing is that he is first an NPP member before becoming an Allan K. supporter, unfortunately these two key personalities did not pay the him a visit ( i stand to be corrected). I strongly believe that if it were the NDC in north east that assaulted the said gentleman some if not all the national executive would have visited him. All these together with others is what is breeding all these discontent in Allan Kyeremantin. In as much as i wish my big brother Bawumia well in this contest, the open support and statements by some key persons in the party is/was equally problematic. Assuming you are/were a Kotoko supporter because you ply your business in kumasi even though you are not from the Ashanti region long before a team from your region qualified for the premier division. As a matured person, in a match between kotoko and you home/town club, even though you will wish that one of them wins the match, you don't show it openly. Most of the NPP MP's and ministers had voting rights in the special delegates election, they could have still kept quiet and still go to vote for their preferred choice, i e Bawumia and the results will still have been as they wished. Anybody who has many children will definitely lean towards one of the children even though they are yours, but you don't openly show it but this is exactly what the NPP has done. Bawumia should take the lead in case he wins by assigning roles to all the other candidates in the campaign, if he extends the olive branch and they refuse, but people would have seen it. Some of those following him (Bawumia) are opportunist. He should be very careful with them. The white birds you see following cattle in the ***barred word*** grabbing grasshoppers as the movement of the cattle forces the grasshoppers to takeoff thus making them easily visible to be preyed on is not interested in the cattle itself but the grasshoppers.
