In a bid to secure his position as the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is appealing to delegates to offer him the opportunity to take on John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking to over 1,300 delegates in the Sunyani East Constituency, Dr Bawumia stated that he knows Mr. Mahama too well and would face him with the monumental achievements of the NPP and the new vision he is bringing to the Party, to defeat him in the 2024 general elections.
Dr Bawumia went ahead to list several initiatives he had led as Vice President including the strong feat Ghana has achieved under digitalization, the “1 Constituency-1 Ambulance” policy, the Agenda 111 hospital projects, the Gold for oil policy, and the drone delivery project.
He therefore challenged Mr. Mahama to tell Ghanaians what achievements or legacies could be associated with his 30 years of political experience, from Assemblyman to President.
The Vice President reminded all party members of the need to maintain unity and avoid attacking one another throughout the campaign.
Dr Bawumia reiterated that the internal elections are not a contest and therefore every member must conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the party.
The communication officer for Sunyani East Constituency, Abubakari Yakubu, has shared captivating scenes from the event with the media.
Bawumia also called for unity and a clean campaign within the Party.
He cautioned every member against attacking others and reminded them that this was not a contest but rather an internal election.
It is expected that the NPP will hold its presidential primaries on the 4th of November 2023.
However, the call by Dr Bawumia may have set the tone for what is expected to be a highly contested Presidential election.

Good one,let Mahama tell Ghanaians just one major social interventional policy/idea he fathered throughout his political career,2024 elections is about track records,it's about comparison of achievenments since both parties have been in power for 8 years...We'll carefully scrutinize national issues and how both parties handled them...propaganda,mischief,lies,misinformation,tribalism won't work.
Maybe this Bawumiah guy electoral fortune will not be based on voting, comparing the current NPP performance in govt to that of NDC under John Mahama if Ghana is my company i will not entrust it's Mgt under Bawumiah, I am a floating voter and i voted for NPP in 2016, couldnt vote in 2020 because i was out of town. My voting for NPP in 2016 was not because of Nana but Bawumiah and his lectures he gave that motivated me. But with where we are now if i am to decide again as a floating voter and i am face with the decision of selecting between JDM and MB, i wouldnt think twice in voting for JDM though he didnt perform to my satisfaction when in office he is more trustworthy for me than M Bawumiah and i dont think i am the only person with this view.
Hmmmmm, big brother, it's not about you and John Mahama ooooo. It all has to do with the electorate. If you ask John Mahama, he will tell you he had a message in 2016, he went to all the 275 constituencies to drum home his message, we (Ghanaians) heard him alright, but we did not listen. So John Mahama per say is not the target, the actual target are those holding voter ID cards. On 7 December, 2024, every person with a voter ID card is a delegate. There is the likely hood you will win your party's presidential primaries. Remember you have a dual task. The first has to do with convincing the NPP party faithful to agree to make sacrifices again like they did in 2016 when there is every indication that they are not happy with the way the party and government is being managed. The second has to do with the main contender, the NDC. Remember this time round they will be attacking and you will be defending. Know that defending is much more difficult than attacking. I like your matter, you have carried yourself so well in this past 7 years, but people ( appointees/ powerful "outsiders" ( outsiders because they don't hold any position in government but they are very powerful) are making things difficult for you going into 2024. You definitely have a lot of other people's rough edges to sharpen. Mahama is definitely not the alternative, unfortunately he's been given a lot of "ammunition " to fire in 2024. That is what is motivating him to want to come back. But for this the NPP would have been the favourate to " break the 8" than the NDC. We are watching.
Is Bawumia not ashamed of his government performance.Mahama is far ahead of him because of the mess he and Akuffo Addo has caused the Ghanaian economy.I think Kennedy Agyapong will be a better candidate than Bawumiah. With little resources, former president Mahama achieved a lot considering the infrastructure he built for Ghana but NPP has borrowed a lot of money with little to show.Ghanaians will teach NPP a lesson come December 2024 and they will lose miserably.
