Former Head of Psychology at the University of Ghana, Professor Joseph Osafo has commended Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong, for peacefully conceding defeat to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the New Patriotic Party’s presidential election.
The New Patriotic Party’s election held on Saturday, November 4, saw Kennedy Agyapong put up an impressive performance polling over 70000 votes to emerge second on the list of four candidates who hoped to become the party’s flagbearer.
Kennedy Agyapong failed to beat the Vice President who garnered over 100,000 votes to be elected flagbearer, however, the former has received lots of commendations considering the fact that he revealed his presidential ambition late into the contest.
During the victory rally by the party at the Accra Sports Stadium, Ken admitted his defeat and promised to work together with Dr. Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party to give the opposition National Democratic Congress a showdown in next year’s general elections.
In view of this, Prof. Joseph Osafo, who now heads the Center for Ageing Studies at Legon, hailed the Assin Central lawmaker saying “I like his posturing while he was conceding that the systems that organized the election were fair”.
He further applauded Ken, stating “you’ve done well. You fought a good fight”.
Prof. Joseph Osafo said this during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show on Monday, November 13.

Yes, Kennedy has proven that he's a force to reckon with in the NPP . Again the number of votes Ken got in this particular primaries (71,996 i e 37.41%) is a clear indication that the current crop of leaders in NPP both at the level of government and party do not have control over the party's grassroots as they initially made people to believe . To those appointees who are/ were surprised as to how Ken managed to get that much votes should ask themselves " what have i done as a minister, deputy minister, MMDCE, CEO or Chairman for the party elders, women and youth my constituency or region for which region my people should vote the way i want? They should all ask themselves. Kennedy Agyapong kept shouting at the top of his voice anytime he sits on TV, " build your party people, build them, build them, build them , they are also Ghanaians meaning Ken was concerned about human beings. You ( the appointees and jubilee house people) refused to listen and decided to build yourselves. Now the time came for human beings to decide, not money, not cars, not government lands, not CV's. At that point, it then occurred to the grabbers that human beings are more important than money and power. Bawumia won because of his humble nature. Let to the appointees alone , Kennedy would have beaten him hands down. If you ( appointees/ jubilee house people) still haven't learnt any lessons from 169 NPP MP's in 2016 reduced to 137 in 48 months ie 2020 and 'lone ranger' Kennedy' s recent performance then there is nothing to learn from again.
