Sammi Awuku has come to the rescue of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo following his comment about the Ekumfi community when some traditional leaders paid a visit to him at the Jubilee House.
The President disclosed before the traditional leaders that he had purposely neglected the community in the area of development because they voted against a New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate, Francis Ato Cudjoe.
Francis Ato Cudjoe lost the parliamentary elections to Abeiku Crentsil in the 2020 elections, and according to the president, this decision by the residents discouraged him from providing development to them.
“Ato Cudjoe was your MP, and I made him a Deputy Minister, and you voted him out in the last elections, and because of that, I did not pay attention to development in your area. I have to be honest with you, but since you have brought it up, I will pay attention to it," he said.
The President has since come under a barrage of criticism, with one of his critics being Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, a governance lecturer at the Central University.
Dr. Otchere-Ankrah slammed President Akufo-Addo, saying he would not have made such remarks when he was pleading with Ghanaians to vote him into power.
“You wouldn’t have said the same thing if you were a candidate. You would never say this thing," he replied.
He added, “When you were being sworn in and while you were holding the Bible, you pledged to serve the entire nation without favoritism. There is already suspicion that the president has neglected certain constituencies. At first, it was a suspicion, but we now know that that is how you are ruling the country. It is not good. You are giving your communicators a difficult job.”
But Sammi Awuku has called on Ghanaians to cut the president some slack.
According to him, the President meant no harm; rather, he was making the people aware of the fact that, due to the absence of Ato Cudjoe as their parliamentary representative, he lost sight of the community.
He emphasized that the president's comments were not made in contempt.
"He didn't say it to disrespect the Ekumfi community, but he said it in the context that, truthfully, when Ato Cudjoe left, it made it difficult for him to follow up on some things," he said on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" flagship programme.

Well said,@Koo. The biggest danger to our democracy and destruction of our country is the unbridled monetization of our politics and l am shocked we're all watching on as if it's normal. It's a matter of time before kriminals, hardcore drug-dealers and even the mafia buy their way to control this country. After all it's no longer the question of who has the best ideas to move Gha a forward but who has the most money(never mind its source). And the uzless peace council is only interested in elections Elections is just one part in building a democracies. The most important thing is the strengthening of our institutions to check corruption and abuse of power which for now have been failed. Politicians have become law unto themselves, they don't account for their stewardship in office and they plunder so much from us it's just horrific. How can we allow a short ediot and his cousin run down the country in the way they have done without being challenged? This is simply ridiculous. As for sammy awuku, the least said about him the better.
It is only someone who sexually takes advantage of a bipolar girl in need of help instead of sexx who can understand this president and l am not surprised Sammy awuku is defending this utterly fooolish utterance by akuffo addo. Do you think Ghanians are tsupid or what? Any time this bufffooon of a president says something scandalous you have these Mr know-more-than-all coming to explain what he meant. Why can't these bootlickers listen to their conscience for once and admit that what the president said is unfortunate? is the president infallible? They should spare us. The president is an embarrassment to our country and we must admit it and no president should ever say the tsupid vthings he has been saying. Was he not the one who swore an oath to do right by all manner of persons?
Dear People , The President is 200% right. He goes to these areas to help them with state resources not his pocket money and the reason he is there at that particular moment because he swear the oath to be President for All and had no choice, and not because they voted for him or not. Also the country resources are limited and a chief who threatened the seat of presidency was asked to complete a delay project if he threatens the President and if he has the resources.
This is interesting. I thought it's children who err, then the elders will come in to correct them. For a to come to the aid of a father when he errs is alien to the Ghanaian culture. I keep saying we have 2 Akuffo Addo's. The pre-2016 one and the post 2016 one. Sammy Awuku, also do well to come to the aid of the president when the people of Kwabre east complained about the bad nature of their roads, he told them to vote for the NDC when the time comes and that he doesn't hold their hands to thumbprint. What of the chief who complained about the delay in operationalizing the SHS block in his community, the president told him to go and complete it if he thinks there were delays. What about the victims of the Akosombo dam spillage, the president told the people that if it were about politics he won't come to them because they didn't vote for him. Won't it be better for you to tell the president to watch his public utterances? How long will you continue to be the only one who understands what he says?
If you don’t have an MP whose government is in power, you can’t the government to send development to your area because Opposition MP cannot cannot get his petition to the ear of the government in power. This is what the President meant.
Because of politics Sammy Awuku has turned to be a defender of lies. Defending the indefensible is his hallmark. It is so sad for a young guy like Sammy Awuku to throw his integrity into the mud to defend what is wrong. Sammy is like a pig always swimming in the muddy pool. The day of reckoning is certainly coming and all the dishonest ones will be exposed.
Sammy Awuku has chosen to throw his integrity in the bin for trying to defend this lose talk. Firstly, no one is talking about respect or disrespect of the president to the people of Ekumfi. Secondly, the constitution of Ghana is designed to allow multiparty system and representation in parliament. Moreover, the president is a president of the whole nation and not the places where he or his party reps got votes. It's absolutely ridiculous and unforgivable for a president or his party communicators to say he ignored or lost sight of a constituency because the member of parliament is not from his party. On the other hand, Bawumia has institutionalise the moneycretization of party internal elections. The kind of precedents Akufo Addo, Bawumia and this NPP government are setting is very dangerous to the health and sustainability of our democracy.
Noise makers always
Akufo-Addo had nothing to say, hence spewing that garbage. If you nothing good to you either gossip or you make unintelligent comments. That is exactly what our president did. Ghanaians have come to know the true colours of Akufo-Addo, who has always believed it was his birthright to be president of Ghana. He not a unifier neither is he a leader, but rather very vindictive conman who paraded himself as an angel to save Ghana from the lies he and his NPP fabricated to get Mahama out of their way so he will also become president 'some'.
