Communications Director for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Goerge Ayisi, has called on the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, to respond to the call of the Asanteman Council over an alleged derogatory statement made by the latter.
Speaking on TV3's "Big Issues", Mr. Ayisi opined that the call by the Asanteman Council is a unique opportunity for Chairman Wontumi to clear himself of any wrongdoing.
"It is incumbent on him (Wontumi) that any call from the Manhyia Palace should be adhered to immediately....It is unfortunate because, considering our harmonious relationship with Manhyia, I thought this could have been nipped in the bud from the get go but we are where we are now'', George Ayisi said.
Chairman Wontumi was summoned by the Asanteman Council over remarks he purportedly made that sought to impugn the authority of Otumfuo, King of the Asante Kingdom. His remarks did not go down well with the council, hence the summons to appear before them within one week.
But his sudden ill-health resulted in his inability to presently come before the council.
Mr. Ayisi believed considering the delicate nature of the issue, and how the electoral fortunes of the ruling party is linked to the region, an entourage that comprises the very top hierarchy of the NPP, notably the National Chairman, General Secretary and possibly the Minister in charge of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, should accompany Chairman Wontumi on the said day.
"The umbilical cord of the New Patriotic party was buried in the Ashanti Region. The Ashanti Region is consdiered as the ''the Strong hold'' of the NPP party. Over the years, the Ashanti Region has contributed extensively to the fortunes of the NPP during elections," he said, adding that it is therefore prudent for the chairman to meet the Asanteman council as soon as possible to ask for forgiveness and duly apologise.

Shameful people. Why was Wontume called? Do you have any voice or video clip?
@Ananse, do you have evidence Ashanti chiefs have sold all their lands for galamsey? It is reckless talk like this that got him in trouble in the first place. And by the way wuntumi is the biggest galamseyer in Ghana and he uses that to fund NPP campaigns. That's why he's mining in the forest and near water bodies, endangering all of our lives. And @Ananse,you are saying they should leave him alone? Really? Hmmmm Ghana!
What crime has wontumi committed? Ghana us governed by a constitution.. For anybody to say he has a political kingdom is not a crime. Did he say he was going to assassinate the otumfou? No!. Why all these noise coming from these ashanti chiefs who have sold all ashanti lands for galamsay.. They should leave the young man alone.
When NPP were nurturing this monsterr called wuntumi, they were warned but in their usual arrogance and pride they ignored everyone else including concerned elders of the party. At this moment he is living his nickname 'wuntumi'-(o mu tumi no!)they can't handle him . He calls himself the political ruler of Ashanti region whilst Otumfuo is the Traditional ruler. So two parallel powers: One with a revered, educated, disciplined and courageous king vs one with an illiterate, corrupt, rich, influential and dodgy character who will do anything for NPP to win power for his personal sustenance and his galamsay-related businesses. It is anyone's guess as to who emerges victorious in this struggle for supremacy but this is definitely a monsterr growing out of control and terrorizing its owner. Enough for today. Y3 kan y3, mu nan mun tie!
As far as the NPP is concerned, in terms of its support in the Ashanti region, Wontumi's behaviour has no bearing whatsoever and should be disassociated as such. The NPP tradition resonates with the people of the Ashanti region, but not with the Ashantis per se, to isolate any tribal connotations and uninformed opinions. Then it wasn't just the Ashantis who voted in the Ashanti region, and the results, as usual, were remarkably impressive. However, the Asantehene has always played a fatherly role beyond any particular political party; he has always given his blessings impartially to all political entities. So if Wontumi has a problem with the Asanteman Council, it's his own problem and not that of the NPP. We the people of Ghana should stop creating our own monsters, period!
