Operations Manager of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, George Kennedy, has attributed the club’s uninspiring form domestically to the late start of the league.
Protracted legal tussle involving Alhaji Gruzah’s King Faisal and Aduana Stars rocked the First Capital Plus Premier League resulting in its late start.
And according to Kennedy, that had a telling effect on the performance of the Porcupine Warriors, pushing them into the relegation zone until last weekend.
He indicated that the team stuck to its previous pre-season program which accounted for the retention of the league trophy, but the delay kept management sitting on tenterhooks, as they did not know whether or to break camp.
“We had a fantastic pre-season program, just like last season but the court issue really distracted our program. At a point we didn’t know whether to break the players or camp them.
“We pray it doesn’t happen again because it really affected us and Ghana football as a whole. When the road was finally cleared we were compelled to play on Wednesdays and Sundays which also made fatigue set in.
“We had to sacrifice the league and concentrate on Africa when we realized things were not working for us. Coaching was also a problem, we don’t just change coaches, there were reasons for the change.”
Until their last league game against Bechem United which they won 3-1, Kotoko had gone past 10 games and were placed third from the bottom on the standings.
