Sports journalist, Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo has called the bluff of persons allegedly plotting to assassinate him.
“As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil…,” he said in an interview on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem Friday.
Black Stars management committee chairman, George Afriyie and another Ghana Football Association (GFA) official, Kofi Manu, known as ‘Blue Blue’ have been invited by the Nima Police for allegedly plotting to assassinate the Sports Presenter.
The two, are helping the police to investigate a report by a Taxi driver that they are orchestrating the assassination of Countryman Songo who is a known critic of the leadership of GFA.
Songo is the presenter of Adom TV and Asempa FM’s 'Fire For Fire' Programme which dissects without favour and consideration issues affecting Ghana Sports.
The show is aired on TV and Radio on weekdays at 1:00 PM.
Songo narrated on Adom FM that the taxi driver told the police that two persons he dropped at Bigot, a popular spot in Accra’s suburb of Abeka-Lapaz were discussing how to ‘eliminate’ him.
According to the taxi driver, the two persons named the two GFA officials as persons who hired them to kill the outspoken Sports Journalist who has been a thorn in the flesh of the GFA officials in recent years.
The taxi driver, he continued, could not however name the two men but could only describe them with the promise to the police that he can identify them on sight.
This led to the invitation of the two football administrators by the Nima Police to assist in investigations.
Songo and some management members of The Multimedia Group were later invited for the same purpose.
The two have been released on bail.
Songo however maintained he was not perturbed by the claim. His only worry, he stated, was his young family.
"You know i'm a family man. My first born is just 14 years. My wife and family are all worried but i fear no evil. More fire" he declared.
