Asante Kotoko midfield hero Michael Akuffu is delighted with his match winning goal against perennial rivals Hearts of Oak.
The former Asec Mimosa enforcer grabbed the headlines in the country’s ‘Super Clash’ on Sunday with a 30-yard thunderbolt that ensured the Kumai based club recorded a 2-1 win and inch closer to their 22nd League title.
The hugely attended game looked destined to end in a draw after Mahatma Otoo scored a superb free-kick in injury time to cancel out Kofi Nti Boakye’s opener in the first half.
But the 26-year-old nicknamed ‘Gaddafi’ because of his unique talent and style of play popped up with a piledriver that sent their supporters into wild jubilation at the packed Baba Yara stadium and he was thrilled with his terrific effort.
“I am very happy that we managed to win the game. When they (Hearts) equalized, we thought it was all over by we never gave up and I managed to score that goal,” Akuffu said
“I dedicate the goal to my daughter who was celebrating her fourth birthday. I wish her well.
“When I got the ball initially, I decide to lay a pass but suddenly changed my mind to drive home that shot that beat goalkeeper Sammy Adjei.
“After beating Hearts the sky is now the limit for us because we’re seriously on course to win the Premier League title. There is no turning back for us now,”
The victory was Kotoko’s first home win in seven years over their sworn rivals at the Baba Yara stadium.
