Former Real Madrid wonderkid Royston Drenthe has been declared bankrupt by a court in Holland.
The ruling was passed in Breda on Tuesday, with the 33-year-old not present at the hearing.
Drenthe spoke to Dutch site voetbalzone following the verdict, but insists that he expects the decision will not be final, explaining that his lawyer was on holiday when the verdict was handed down. 'I'm always under a magnifying glass, but it will be resolved as it should.'
Drenthe has previously stated that he last lost £3.2million after his glittering career in football simmered out.
Beginning his senior career with Feyenoord, he earned a move to Real Madrid off the back of his displays at the Under-21 European Championships in 2007, where he was named the player of the tournament as the Dutch lifted the trophy.
