Herbert Mensah Suggests How Ghana Premier League Can Be Made More Attractive

Astute football administrator, Herbert Mensah says Ghana Premier League (GPL) has always been promising but lacks business ideas to make it ‘attractive’ to the world.

To him, more is needed to be done to make the domestic league the very best in Africa and force other African players to join.

"I think we need to raise the bar,” he said.

The former Asante Kotoko Football Club Chairman in an interview with Peace FM’s Power Sports said the authorities in charge of the league must lure businesses to invest in the association.

“It is possible. Some will say you are just talking it’s not easy, but we are people who did it. We got involved and have proved the global standard. We raise the game and make football more attractive,” he told sports Journalist, Dan Kweku Yeboah.

Mr Mensah’s heydays in Ghana football and chairman of Kumasi based Kotoko was a talk-in-town.

Football pundits, however, described him as the ‘messiah’ after transforming Kumasi Asante Kotoko to become one of the most difficult clubs to beat – not only in Ghana but in Africa and the world at large.

His involvements in Ghana’s version of the ‘El Classico’ – match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak were peerless to date.

Even though Mr Herbert Mensah is not into active football administration now – he believes the current football authorities can do better to make the domestic league lucrative.

“No investor will like to invest in a league when nobody is watching. Ghana football shouldn’t be about going to World Cup alone. Football administrators’ job is to be off the field, they are not coaches."

“They should get the structures right so private companies can invest for supporters to get quality games to watch.” He lamented
