Aspiring National Chairman of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) Nana Ofori Owusu has urged customers of GN Bank to remain calm because their deposits are safe.
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Nana Ofori Owusu noted that there is no cause for alarm and so calls on Ghanaians entirely not to engage in panic withdrawals from the banks, particularly local financial institutions, in the country.
He was commenting on recent shake-ups in the financial sector which have seemingly pumped fear in Ghanaians who are saving with various banks in the country.
The President of GN Bank, Paa Kwesi Nduom, has been visiting his customers assuring them of the bank's strength and ability to keep their deposits in a safe condition.
Dr. Nduom is extremely concerned with the possibility of panic withdrawals from the bank as a result of actions by the Bank of Ghana to shut down some banks.
The Bank of Ghana took over about 7 banks and has joined them to become a consolidated bank.
Addressing the issue, Nana Ofori Owusu asked the Government of Ghana to help strengthen local banks in order to whip up the confidence of Ghanaians in transacting business with the banks.
According to him, it is safer for people to put their monies in the banks than withdraw them which put them at risk.
Though admitting that there are challenges with the financial sector, Nana Ofori Owusu is however hopeful that should the government support the banks and allay the fears of customers, there will be massive improvement in the sector.
He pleaded with Ghanaians, particularly GN Bank customers, to note their "money is safe but there is no way the money can be given to everyone at the same time. Let’s support your money to be in the bank. Don’t go for it now. Let it remain there and it will multiply for you. There is no pesewa that will be lost in the local financial institutions. We apologize to Ghanaians to note that there are difficulties but we as a people will overcome the difficulties”.

@Chairman Appiah, you are clearly not a customer of the bank
I blame Dr Nduom for this panic withdrawals that has hit GN Bank. When BOG increased the capital requirement for banks to 400m and the need for banks to recaptalised by Dec 31,2018 Dr Nduom is on record to have said that GN Bank will meet the requirement before the deadline so what has changed? The bank has put a hold on its Saturday banking operations and for me i think it is going to cause more panic withdrawals. Dr Nduom should quickly come out and tell the General public how far they have gone with their recaptalisation plans to restore confidence. The mere talks will not change anything. Money is hard to come by oo masa!
Nana thanks for the assurance, we the customers of Gn Bank believes in Dr Ndoum, we would continue to do business with Gn bank as it is the only bank for the ordinary Ghanaians, all Gn bank customers should have confidence in the man called Dr Ndoum, lets stop the panic withdrawal, lets all go back and deposit the money that we have taking from the bank some few weeks ago. some of us cannot sleep with this huge money we took from the bank and keeping it under our pillows, lets all send the money back to the bank (gn bank ) to have a sound sleep, our cash would forever be safe with GN BANK.
