President Nana Akufo-Addo says he appointed the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu to instill the "fear of God" in potential corrupt officials in the country.
The President, addressing the press at a meeting at the Flagstaff House Wednesday, stated categorically that the Special Prosecutor is not instituted to embark on "witch-hunt" as feared by some critics.
According to him, the primary intention of the Special Prosecutor is to put the "fear of God" in people so as to curb corruption in the country.
President Akufo-Addo believed pumping the fear for God in the custodians of the State is a step to fighting corruption.
The President further reiterated his earnest desire to combat corruption, asking Ghanaians to "try me, produce the evidence to back the allegation and see" what his reaction will be.
" . . some people appear determined to stick their politically motivated view that there has been corruption. This surely is not a helpful practice . . . I have greater interest in my appointees not being corrupt than any critic could possibly have. Try me, produce the evidence to back the allegation and see what the reaction will be”, he said adding that "the current office holders are as likely to be investigated and prosecuted by the Special Prosecutor if a case is made out against them as past office holders. At all times, the rule of law must be adhered to”.

@Asa, think about Ghana first before NDC and NPP. Martin Amidu is first a Ghanaian before a member of the NDC.
So who prosecutes the Special Prosecutor in the event?
Ah, if akoto ampaw and Addison were competent to do the job, why would your short president not be bold to appoint one of them? Do you think every Ghanaian love the appointment of amidu. In the same way if akoto ampaw or Addison were appointed people would still oppose it. It's normal, so failing to appoint one from his party is indication that he is not firm and possibly did not have any competent person in his party.
You see how little mind you are? Did you not hear of Lawyers Akoto Ampaw and Addison doing the rounds? Did you also hear of the concern some people raised that the Lawyers are staunch NPP members and that their appointment to that office will wrong? Go take a glass of apio and sleep.
if it is true that taxes build great nations then the first case for the SP must be the oil companies who have been dodging taxes since they started drilling oil in this country. My little investigation shows they owe this country over $20 billion dollars. Go after the White tives who call this country a sh..hole.
Shame on you. Among your so called NPP men you couldn't get anyone except an NDC former attorney general and former vice presidential candidate to put the fear of God in your corrupt appointees. This clearly shows that if the NDC would stick to their probity, accountability and justice values, NPP has no place in Ghana governance. This is a clear indication that NDC could fight corruption better than the NPP. Lame duck president, who cannot stamp his authority on his own appointees and had to get his opponent to do his job for him. Pathetic.
the c1m1nals in the ndc dont want to go to jail and alone and will do everything to get their colleagues in the npp to join them. it is only a certain the!f called mahama that will defend his corrupt ple bcos he was at every time part of the deal. hopeful Mr. Amidu will get to start work and we will see what he will do. i hope he doesnt put his interest first.
And so after boasting of 'men with integrity in the npp u cld not find one but to go to the 'corrupt ndc to choose? wow!!!!! The ndc after all has some good people l guess! No wonder he did your bidding leading to your so called victory. For me That is how far he can go in his political life. Petty Jealousy can only send you this far martin but it will at least put food on your table.
