The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers, Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Food and Beverages Association of Ghana, Ghana Union of Traders Association, Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders and Wholesalers, and Shop Owners Association of Ghana have issued a notice to boycott the launch of the tax stamp by the Ministry of Finance slated for Thursday, 31 August 2017.
The associations, in a joint statement said they will not be part of the launch because among other things, “Our letter dated 28 August 2017, requesting the postponement of the launch (Tax Stamp) was treated with contempt.”
The associations further said they are calling for a general meeting of all stakeholders to be organised by the Ministry of Finance to address challenges raised at previous engagements with the Ministry.
Among the challenges, the associations called on government to position the tax affixing machines at all border points because they believe “the challenge of realising full revenue from tax has to do with smuggling. However the suspected borders are being left out and this is a sure recipe for failure”.
The statement further said: “All stakeholders, together with the Ministry of Finance, should propose comprehensive programmes towards the implementation of the tax stamp project to the satisfaction of industry.”

In fact sometimes am strongly inclined to believe that most of the NDC members are illitrate-***barred word*** of the fundamentals, and those who claim to have some kind of education are dishonest. You see, nuisance tax like Import duties on some items like certain spare parts can be critical and therefore, can be removed but it doesn't mean that the proceeds from these items are not taxable. The introduction of Tax stamp is to facilitate a controll mechanism both in the interest of the tax Payers and the Tax Authorities to make it easier when it Comes to Tax Declearation, Clearance and Returns computation.Indeed, if you want to expand the tax net to get the informal sector on board this measure can be useful. Then, when you get the stamp you are captured except you want to evade tax- otherwise it is not a big deal.
@ Ago.Your understanding is totally flawed and shows a lobotomised mentality. How can any country develop without taxes? These people are only introducing new regimes such that the tax net will be spread wider.my only concern is that they should engage all stakeholders so that these programmes become more acceptable and effective. For your information all the NPP said was that they would abolish nuisance taxes which they have.
My understanding is that, NPP abhors tax. They made a sustaining accusation against NDC for instituting various taxes. Now they are sounding the tax drum louder than NDC. Post reality politics is catching up with them.
