Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Deputy Education Minister in charge of Basic & Secondary Education says there is no cut-off point for candidates entering the Senior High School Level.
Reports are rife that the cut-off point for access to Free SHS is Aggregate 25 or better. This means only candidates who distinguish themselves in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and obtain aggregate 25 or better will gain access into the SHS level.
However, speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Monday's edition of 'Kokrokoo', Dr. Adutwum said there is not going to be any cut-off point.

Abolish examination at basic schools now.Examine individual creativity and abilities.
it is very better and important to have a cut off. these students are not serious and they are waste when they enter the shs. please there should be a cut-off as an entering point for them. it should be like a scholarship, brilliant student can have access to it. it will motivate the children to learn hard and be serious at the same time. agregrade 25 upwards should not qualify. the waste is too much. some cannot even write their names and they are in shs wasting tax payers money. Nana akuffo adoo, please open your eyes well and set a standard for this free shs policy.
It will be a very good idea paaa it there should be a cut-off point . This will put some seriousness in the pupils . Come to my school and see the children who came with the 40+ aggregates. You clearly see that they're just occupying space .
I ATTENDED A MEETING THAT WAS ORGANISED FOR PARENTS OF STUDENTS WRITING THE BECE WITHIN ABLEKUMA CENTRAL CONSTITUENCY IN MAY 2019 BY THE NPP MP FOR THAT CONSTITUENCY AND HE CATEGORICALLY STATED THERE THAT THE CUT OFF POINT WAS AGGREGATE 25. AND THAT ANY AGGREGATE AFTER THE AGGREGATE 25 WOULD NOT GET PLACEMENT TO ANY SHS. SO WHO IS TELLING US THE TRUTH? IS THERE SOMETHING TO HIDE FROM PARENTS? I CAN'T TRUST THIS GOVERNMENT. THE MP WAS EVEN ASKED A QUESTION THERE BY A GENTLEMAN IN BLACK SUIT THAT WAS IT NOT BECAUSE OF FUNDING THAT THE GOVERNMENT WAS PEGGING THE PLACEMENT AGGREGATE AT 25 INSTEAD OF THE USUAL 36 THAT WE ALL KNOW? HE TRIED WRONGLY TO JUSTIFY THE REASONS FOR THE CUT OFF POINT OF AGGREGATE 25 AND YET SOME OF US WERE NOT SATISFIED WITH THAT INFANT EXPLANATION.
