The life of a 14-year-old first year student of Accra Academy is at stake unless the public helps him raise an amount of GH37,360 to pay for his kidney treatment.
Though a section of the media has joined in the fund-raising campaign, time is running out and he is yet to raise the amount.
The boy, Richard Kusi Yeboah, has been diagnosed with End-stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) and is scheduled to undergo haemodialysis to prepare him for a transplant. The total cost for haemodialysis and drug management for one year is approximately thirty seven thousand, three hundred and sixty Ghana Cedis (GH37,360), a statement signed by Head of the Renal Unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Charlotte Osafo said.
His mother has since February, through the benevolence of an Accra-based television station, paid for his treatment which cost over $100 per dialysis treatment.
She is now seeking the help of the general public to help her son continue with his treatment.
Dr. Osafo noted that the best option for Richardss condition is a kidney transplant, therefore he needed to look for a suitable donor before he could be worked up for a transplant. Before then, he must undergo haemodialysis. The total cost for kidney transplant and immunosuppression is approximately forty thousand Ghana cedis, (GH40,000), the statement noted.
