Marie Stopes Ghana is proud to support World Vasectomy Day to help men and their families become more informed about their choices.
Vasectomy is simple, safe and cost-effective, but misconceptions and cultural barriers mean uptake can be extremely low, with some men incorrectly attributing it to a reduction in sexual performance or desire, or in some cases even equating it with castration.
To dispel the myths and raise awareness about the many benefits of the procedure, Marie Stopes Ghana will be holding a number of events and initiatives such as;
· Public education, and
· Free Service in our centres.
Vasectomy is not just one of the most effective methods of contraception available; it is also one of the safest. The no scalpel technique pioneered by Marie Stopes International takes less than 15 minutes and is more than 99 per cent effective.
In our part of the world, contraception (family planning) is seen as a women’s issue, but many men want the opportunity to plan the number of children they have, and many women want to be able to share the responsibility of contraception with their partner. Vasectomy is really an act of love.
Marie Stopes Ghana would encourage men who have had a vasectomy to share their experience about its safety and the peace of mind it brings with other men.
