The world marks World Water Day on Wednesday, March 22 to tackle water crises resulting from bad practices.
The annual event which is celebrated on March 22 focuses on the importance of universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene in developing countries as well as developed ones.
Though the event is supposed to promote clean water for people, it's a sad day today to find several of Ghana's water bodies contaminated particular by the activities of illegal mining operators.
Peace FM's Correspondent, Sally Ngissah took a trip to Sekyere Hemang at Elmina District in the Central Region to make some studies on the nature of the water bodies in the vicinity.
She reports that due to the activities of small-scale illegal mining (galamsey), the water bodies at Sekyere Hemang have turned yellowish and destroyed by the galamseyers.
Speaking with the Regional Production Manager of the Ghana Water Company in Cape Coast, Mr. John Eric Kwofie; she noted that the company is unable to tap water from the water bodies to supply communities in the Region.
"This has resulted in more cost for the company," he stressed.
Below are some disturbing images of the water bodies in the Central Region, specifically Sekyere Hemang:

Why don't you demonstrate against your MPs and Government like "Kume Preko" about water?. That is the only they will understand.
WHAT IS NANA ADDO GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS POLUTION BECAUSE THIS IS NOT GHANA ; THESE PICTURES ARE BAD !!!!!!THE COUNTRY HAS TURNED INTO A SATANIC STATE IN WHICH KILLINGS AND POLLUTING OF WATER IS THE ORDER OF THE DAY BUT THEN GHANA EXPECTS TOURISM TO ATTRACT PEOPLE FROM ABROAD : WHAT DO YOU THINK VISTORS WHEN THEY SEE SUCH POLLUTED RIVERS WILL SAY TO GHANAIANS ;BESIDES WE WANT THEM TO COME AND SPEND THEIR DOLLARS IN GHANA WHILST THEY GO HOME AND BE ILL OR ATTRACT CANCER ; WE ARE ALWAYS CLAIMING WE HAVE CULTURAL HERITAGE WHILST WE DESTROY OUR RIVERS AND FORESTS : NANA ADDDO WAKE UP !!!!!!!
I GET BORED STIFF WHEN I HEAR ESPECIALLY CHIEFS, MPS AND OPINION LEADERS JUSTIFYING GALAMSEY OPERATIONS BY SAYING THAT THE YOUTH HAVE NOTHING TO DO APART FROM ENGAGING IN THIS ILLEGAL ACTIVITY. SO CAN ALLOW ARMED ROBBERY, LAND GUARD OPERATIONS AND OTHER CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES TO GO ON JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE NOT JOBS? THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD TAKE A BOLD STEPS BY EMPOWERING THE MILITARY AND POLICE TO SHOOT AND KILL GALAMSEY OPERATORS AND LAND GUARDS AS DONE TO ARMED ROBBERS. DRASTIC SITUATIONS DEMAND DRASTIC MEASURES.
Every water body/rivers or land in the world, be it in Ghana, Britain, America, China, Japan etc etc, have some amount of mineral deposited underneath by God. Yet no one can just take a license from the authorities and start digging anywhere in the name of mineral resources without observing the hazards his/her actions pose to the environment. This barbaric and inhumane activities can not and will not happen in any of the countries mentions above without the authorities stopping it at one time. Shame on our politicians/ DCEs, Chiefs and all the opinion leaders in the communities concerned. As for the money you will make it today, but know ye know you will give account of your stewardship as opinion leader of the country, regions, districts, municipals, communities, towns, villages etc
I would be grateful if the Government would do the Nation Ghana favour to dislodge all Galamsay Operators in the country to save the nation from DISEASES which is pending coming very soon because of these activities. I re commend the Military to go round the country to collect all machines what so ever and assemble them at a particular area. That action should continue for at least four years to stop every body.
OUR LEADERS INCLUDING ; JJ RAWLINGS ;KUFFOUR ; JON MAHAMA AND NANA ADDO HAVE JUST STOOD BY AND PRETENDED THEY HAVE NO KNOWLEGDE OF THIS HIGH TREASON IN GHANA THE PPOLLUTION OF OUR LIFE LINE WATER; INSTEAD OF THEM TO USE OUR RESOURCES TO STOP OUR RIVERS BEING POLLUTED : THEY RATHER PREFER TO RIDE IN BIG CARS: BUILD BIG HOUSES : TALK BIG AND BLAME EACH ANOTHER FOR THE SAD POLLUTION OF OUR RIVERS; to me the blame should be laid squarely at the number of civil servants who collude with politicians ;Chiefs the security to destroy our WATER ; WHAT THEY DO NOT REALISE IS THAT WATER IS LIFE ; the amonut of toxic chemical been poured into our rivers including toxic mercury will start killing life in the water and will starting causing cancer in our food base very soon ; GHANA SHOULD WAKE UP AND STOP ALL GALAMASEY OPERATIONS ASP UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE WHEN THESE RIVERS START TO CLEAN ITSELF ;NANA ADDO SHOULD DO SOMETHING NOW !!!!!!because as nation we have failed ourselves through these politicians abnd these evil servants who condone and fail to apply the laws to protect our WATERS !!!!!.
OH GHANA ARE WE SEROUS AS A NATION
