The Eastern regional Minister Eric Kwakye Darfour has expressed fear the Palace of the Okyenhene will soon be invaded by illegal miners, if nothing is done about their activities at Kyebi.
According to the regional Minister, the damaged inflicted on the Birim River by the illegal miners has led to the total shut down of the water treatment plant at Kyebi.
The visibly worried minister told a gathering at the official opening of Highways Shell fuel filling station at Koforidua-Abrewankwanta in the Eastern region Friday that he once told the Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin about the potential threat to his residence by the miners.
The Minister said despite the environmental degradation by the illegal miners in area, two chiefs in nearby communities, Apapam and Adadietem, have been able to protect their lands from illegal mining, which shows that chiefs who are the custodians of the land can help conserve the land.
He explained the fight against galamsey does not mean the government is against mining. He said government wants mining to be done in environmentally acceptable way.
He urged chiefs to support the government drive to eliminate galamsey.
The Chief of Aburi , Otobuor Gyan Kwasi, who was Chairman of the program, advised Chiefs and politicians who are involved in galamsey activities to desist in order to preserve and conserve the environment for the future generation

Nana Amotia Ofori =Panin is deeply involved with this galamasey ; all he does is give it a lip service ; he is a KROOK and LIAR and involved in destroying the waters of Ghana ; although he thinks he is Chief Nana Addo should warn him about his leadership in this business and if anything else he shoulsd be arrested because no Chief is above the law;WHO BORN DOG !!!!nobody is above law n Ghana today besides when history tells us that it is our Chief who fuelled the slave trade and encouraged the whites to come and take our mothers and sister; brothers and fathers into slavery ; today these same Chiefs are participating in this galamasey which tells you that it was our own Chiefs who encouraged this slave trade business which involved death and misery ; today it is their great great grand children who as Chiefs are enocouraging such trade and polluting our rivers which will eventually lead to ill health and death to Ghanaians; Nana Amotia Ofori Panin should be arrested -PRONTO !!!!!! .
The last time former president Mahama was in Okyehene,s palace, he told him to live up to expectation and stop the lip services he has been playing on environmental protection. But he was crucified and told he had not spoken well to a chief just because NPP wanted Mahama to look bad. But the fact of the matter is that Okyehene after ascending to the thrown listed environmental protection as one of his main focus. But down the line, mining pits are 100 meters away from his palace yet he says he has not seen. When police go in and arrest them, he sends his sub-chiefs to plead and get them released. Now this small regional minister can see it in the face of the Okyehene and go scout free!
What is the sense in it while the biggest galamsey operator is OKYENHENE OWN BODYGUARD and who else don't know in kyebi township Okyenhene must be arrest first he is not above the law
The galamsey in Kyebi, The Okyehene must keep an eye on the Abontengdomhene very closely.
