The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned Heads of both public and private basic schools not to register candidates ineligible to sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).
The Ghana Education Service Management has strictly warned the Heads to note that "registration of candidates for the BECE for school candidates is strictly for students in Junior High School Form Three only".
In a statement issued and signed by the Ag. Director-General, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, "students in Junior High School Form One and Junior High School Form Two are ineligible to register and write the BECE. Candidates who want to re-sit the BECE are not qualified to register with the regular candidates in school and are therefore, advised to take advantage of the private BECE".
The statement further read that "under no circumstance should a headteacher register student(s) from another school for the BECE without proper transfer documents. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and French are optional subjects to schools and not candidates."
"By this letter, Regional and Metro/Municipal/District Directors of the Education are to ensure that heads of basic schools strictly comply with the above directives. Any headteacher found to have gone contrary to the directives will be severely sanctioned by Management," the statement read.

@ Joe Maturity has nothing to do with age! There are so many instances where these kids (form 1 and 2) have performed better than so called form 3. At the same time, they have become responsible citizens with better professions! My cousin wrote the BECE when she was in form 2,when to St. Louis SHS and then KNUST. She's now working as a pharmacist! What is GES talking about?! They should give us a break!
Why should we waste the time of the kids . If a child can write and pass the exams why should we stop them? The private BECE also has rules that are not favourable to brilliant kids. Please GES lets give a chance to the smart kids . Hmm its the poor who always suffers. The rich families always have their way. The choose British and American system and they are there.
No body is stopping an A+ student. The directive says those students can write the exams as private candidates;there is a period for the private students. Please read
At long last, something better is coming from the GES. Maturity counts in education not only academic performance
If they are capable to write the exams, why not allow them.
Please do not agree with the Minister the Waring given to the Head Masters with the Child is good why should we waste his time when common entrance was working people were making it to Secondary my Son was jumped to other class and now his Lawyer.
So if the students is an A+. why waste time till 3rd year before writing the exams?
