A Law Lecturer at the Ghana Law School, Moses Foh-Amoaning has commended the government for its decision to build a national cathedral, describing the ideas as “perfect.”
“I think that that is perfect; that is a good idea,” he said, noting that there was no reason for people to debate over why government is supporting the building a national cathedral.
Mr Foh-Amoaning's comment comes in the wake of discussions as to the necessity of a national cathedral which is to be situated at Ridge.
The proposed land for the construction of the cathedral is also in contention as government plans to evict some nine Justices of the Court of Appeal to make way for the edifice.
But speaking on Accra-based Joy FM Tuesday morning, Mr Foh-Amoaning said the argument that Ghana is a circular state and thus, building a national cathedral for Christians contravenes the very moral fiber of the country, cannot hold water.
According to him, describing a state as a circular one does not mean that that state does not have a culture or religion.
“When we say that the state is circular in the constitution, it doesn’t mean that the state doesn’t have a culture; doesn’t have a religion,” he said, adding that majority of Ghanaians are Christians followed by Muslims and other religious sects.
Mr Foh-Amoaning was of the view that describing Ghana as a circular state also doesn’t mean Ghana is atheistic, saying that many countries have embarked on a similar path of being circular and they are now morally rot, citing America, UK, and Western Europe as examples.
He said it is dangerous for people to advance an argument against the building of the national cathedral, arguing that if we allow ourselves as a circular state and forget about God, the devil would superimpose his values on us.
He explained, for instance, that President Akufo-Addo during his campaign in the 2016 elections campaigned on a religious mantra that “the battle is the Lord’s” and so he (President Akufo-Addo) building a national cathedral was in the right direction and that there is nothing wrong with it.
According to Mr Foh-Amoaning, about 99 per cent of Ghanaians are faith-based people who want to be ruled by a certain moral direction and that “it is good the president has decided to build a national cathedral.”
“Ghanaians want to have leadership that is moral and spiritual,” he said, reiterating that “we must encourage the building of the national cathedral.”
He said people expressing views against the building of the national cathedral on social media do not represent the views of majority of Ghanaians.

Massa; frankly; I am rather disappointed I am very disappointed in your tunnel vision and view that this idea of a cahederal is a good idea and a perfect ; for your coments are bogus because as lawyer you should understand that in order to make a case in court you need to provide ojective evidence and not subjective facts otherwise your views will be attempt to put sand in Gari for Ghanaians mixed with cow dug to eat ; the fact is that Ghana is not not a christian nation and we have never fully accepted christianity as a religion because we do not do what the christian teachings tell us neither do we have any belief in christiaity ; we are just HYPOCRATES and non believers at heart besides so far as I am aware there have beig no proper research conducted on the issue and even if there was one the data may be false and fake because people a large percentage of these so called christians have a belief in our ancestral 'juju' heritage ; if you ask a typical christian whether they still visted or have a bilief i our local juju they will tell you NO !!!!but the truth is that they do have strong belief in the ; this idea that Ghana is a christian nation is only exhibited in the urbamn cities ; Accra ; Kumasi; Tamale etc but these areas does ot not represent the whole of Ghana ; now as why such cathederal is unncecssary in our todays Ghana is that the Christian relgion/moslem religion have not helped our development ; it has only thought is to be hypocrates and corrupt our basic morality in Ghana because you flout the law all you need to do is go see the Pastor or imman or chief and then you walk away free; we do not believe in the Bible which full of the law ; neither do we believe in God as christians; we have today a situation i which there are still schools under trees with no proper books ; there no hospitals with medicines ; our seweage system is a disgrace ; go to Kumasi and Accra today people a still defacting in black bags and throwing them in gutters and sheeting o the beaches but then we have a Presidents who goes to the US sees a cathederal and decides that he must build one in Ghana with our limited without thought we do not have the resources to waste on such grand edifices and that the US has all the resources to build their country and after decided to build such catherderal ; we should cut our coat according to our size because building cathederal will not guarantee any Ghanaian entry into heaven ; we need to develop our basic infracture not building uless cathederals ; if you go to austria ; norway and most of the nordic countries ; they do not have cathederals but have built a system which makes all citizens enjoy the fruits of the land not for the few elite who when their fraternity dies are laid to be laid in state in these elephant edifices.
the most hypocritical sector in Ghana are the christian bodies. no wonder we are retrogressing with them us majority. how many Churches are there in Ghana to warrant this proponent?
Ghana is a circular state ? lol
Peacefm ur English ooo. Its not circular ah ba. its Secular. Repeat after me, Secular

Nana has demonstrated that he has not forgotten the God who gave him the victory. Let us rally behind Nana to help build this great edifice to honour the King of kings and Lord of lords.
To say countries tat are atheistic are morally rot is not correct in my opinion because if you compare those countries to Ghana that claimed to be abiding by Christian value they make better decisions
WE ALL SUPPORT THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NATIONAL CATHEDRAL BUT WHAT WE DISAGREE IS THE LOCATION BECAUSE ACCRA IS ALREADY CHOKED SO IT MUST BE SITED OUTSIDE ACCRA eg. THE PLAINS BETWEEN DAWHENYA TO SEGE, DODOWA etc etc. ALL THESE PLACES ARE LYING FALLOW AND COST OF COMPENSATION TO LAND OWNERS HERE ALSO MAY BE FAR LESS THAN ACCRA
Good point and God bless the president for this project amen
Good point @ street Talks...can be built somewhere else. Not only in Accra
