Ooo The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced that work on the six (6) uncompleted pedestrian bridges in Adenta will commence within a week.
Temporarily, the Ministry in collaboration with the Interior Ministry has requested the Ghana Police Service to deploy officers of the Motor Traffic Unit to prevent further deaths.
A statement from the Inter Ministerial Committee on road safety issued on thursday night, said government regretted the deaths of residents who had been killed by speeding vehicles. The statement further said work had already been ongoing in recent weeks to address the situation and that procurement processes were now near completion.
Contractors working on the project abandoned the project abandoned it as a result of failure by the Mills-Mahama administration to honour payments due them.
As part of efforts to renew work on the project, the Akufo-Addo administration settled 50% of their debt and has been working to get work resumed in November 2018.
Though official Police records say twenty-four (24) deaths and sixty four (64) injuries have been recorded on the stretch this year, media reports suggest almost two hundred (200) pedestrians have been killed.
Contractors handed over the project without completing the bridges. The Ministry says it is making frantic efforts to correct the situation and appealed to residents to assist in containing the situation.
The project commenced in July 2008 and was handed over in June 2018.
Drivers have also been cautioned to observe speed limits while pedestrians have also been encouraged to use the signalized intersections as much as possible.

***barred word*** is when u wait to see 200 people die before realising you must fix the footbridges in a short period. if our leaders can't solve societal problems with all their degrees and titles, then education is ***barred word***. I was very happy to see what happened at Adenta yesterday. I wish I could join. Good for nothing leaders. God save Ghana.
Why not fix the traffic lights as well as the street lights. How much will it cost for the malfunction lights to be repaired. Roads dotted with pot holes are not being sealed. What are all are people of authority doing.
Why was the construction of the footbridges stopped in the first place? Then we went ahead to construct a super structure at Circle and named it'Dubai". Why o Why. The Nsawam to Suhum portion of the Accra to Kumasi Highway has been left as a 2 lane traffic road leading to loss of lives almost everyday. Why are these projects not continued after change of government?
Ermmmm! I don’t think 🤔 anyone apportioning blame to Mills/Mahama administration is making the NPP look good especially after appointing 111 ministers with over 2000 Presidential Staafers. Please my fellow elephantiasis, Ghanaians are now very wide awake so let’s think before we write or speak. Better still let’s allow only literate journalists to write for us.
Ghana government is a joke. We have a president who is just interested in dancing atopa with a foreign princess when over 190 persons have died in adenta. It shows how serious he is. It took demonstrations for police to deployed to avoid further deaths. Gimi president.
