President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended his condolences to the family of the student of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS) who lost her life on Thursday trying to cross Adentan-Madina highway.
"I express my deep condolences to the family of the student who lost her life yesterday at Adenta, after being knocked down by a taxi, as she attempted crossing the road on her way from school," President Akufo-Addo said in a message of condolence.
"Our nation has suffered an unnecessary loss. The scenes that played out in its aftermath are regrettable, and should not happen again," the President added.
He said the Ministry of Roads and Highways is ensuring that work begins on completion of these bridges in the course of the coming week, and has put together a comprehensive plan to address systematically all these infrastructural problems, which are legacies of a past decade of neglect.
"I would urge drivers and pedestrians to obey and respect the laws on our roads. All of us, Government and the citizenry, have a collective responsibility to safeguard and preserve life. My condolences, once again, to the family," President Akufo-Addo stated.
A first-year female student of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS) who was attempting to cross the highway to go to the WASS campus was knocked down and killed on the Madina-Adentan highway on Thursday.
The incident sparked a spontaneous protest again on the highway by residents in the area.
The residents blocked the highway as part of the protest, burned tyres and made it impossible for vehicles to and from Aburi to use the highway.
The police responded to control the protesters but had a hard time following a clash with the protesters.
The deceased was going to join her colleagues on campus for group studies since school was on a break for the green track.
Students under the green track vacated on Wednesday to make way for the gold track semester system to start school this weekend.

HE KEEPS MAKING THE NDC MORE COMPETENT. AFTER ALL INFRASTRUCTURE WASN'T A BAD THING. THIS IS HOW WE LOST OUR PATH AS A NATION.. PEOPLE LYING INTO POWER IS WHAT BRINGS ABOUT ALL THESE... NANA ADDO THE JUNK.. GHANAIANS WILL KEEP FACING THIS IF WE THINK PRESIDENCY IS ABOUT SYMPATHY.... THIS MAN SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN PRESIDENT... WE SEEK VISIONARY MEN , YOU SAY HE HAS A DREAM.. WE ALL HAVE DREAMS BUT WHAT MATTERS MOST IS THE ABILITY AND CAPACITY YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GATHER TO ACHIEVE IT.. THIS PRESIDENT IS JUST HERE BECAUSE OF SYMPATHY... IT WON'T TAKE US NOWHERE
Kwabena, the real name for bond is bondagge, Another name for bondage is slaveryy, I think now you know what it means for the finance minister to go in for bonds. Anytime we go in for bonds or loan we go into servitudde. Nana Addo is a mistake! He's insensitive, how can you close banks and claim they are insolvent when your government is refusing to pay for contracts these same banks have financed? I don't know how Nana Addo is able to sleep at night when he is responsible for the lose of thousands of jobs through vindictivenesss.
THIS GUY IS SIMPLY AN ***barred word***.***barred word*** FELLA. ***barred word***
This man get me infuriated these when he talks. I have seriously regretted my vote him. When will he stop talking about past govt. We knew the problems that why some of us u dont have any political bias voted for u to fixed the problems.
There should not even a comparison between npp and ndc here. This is because nana addo and barwumia made all Ghanaians believe that they are more competent and ndc was incompetent. So for competent persons to be given the opportunity to run the country when the incompetent one you claimed is already booted, why would one even argue that ndc should've done this or that. The ball is now in your court, do the job and stop making stoupid comparisons, talking about successive government not doing what. Barwumia is even missing in the action. This is the time for him to speak competence. People are dying, he needs to explain why competent bunch of 111 minister cannot build foot bridge for about 2years in office. Dishonest persons.
Why should people died before we recognize a problem. What is cost to build FOOTBRIDGE? 100 humans life, 200 humans life? Both Ndc and Npp politicians in ghana shame on you including former president and current President. I will never WASTE my time to go and stand in a queue to vote.cracyand selfish people.
Mr. President, can't the finance minister raise ROAD BONDS to fix our distressed roads and bridges across the country? How many lives should the country lose to these accidents. When our banks were in distress, over GHS10 billion worth of bonds were raised to put them through the consolidation process to protect both rich and poor depositors. We are daily told that the Road Fund had been mortgaged by the NDC, therefore monies accruing therein are used to settle this bank loan. Fair enough, now let those in charge of governance think outside the box and allow the finance minister follow due process and go for the road bonds to ameliorate the situation for poor and vulnerable as well as the rich people in this country. Would that seriously affect our debt to GDP? So long as it is for a good course, let's do it.
What should not happen again. You are the demonstrator in chief, today you are talking about regrettable protests. Hypocrite. Have you forgotten kumpreko and yerebre demos you led? Have forgotten all die be die. Now you are president so demonstrations and protests are regrettable. There is a saying that if you teach a child in the way he should go he will not depart from it. This is what you taught Ghanaians and the chickens have come home to roost.
The man is confused.
This man has the same mentality as trump. What do you take Ghanaians for? You sat down for 194 people to die, while dancing atopa and azonto with your colonial masters and now you the audacity to talk about unnecessary loss. Have you asked yourself why do you have 111 ministers? How much and how long does it take to build pedestrian bridges. You are able to provide free SHS but not able to build important bridges that save lives. You are able to restore trainees allowances but not life saving measures. What a fuuuuull we have as president. Never proactive, always reactive. So much unnecessary reviews of contracts is being used as reason why the government is not building infrastructure. Nana addo, you are shammmeless.
