The Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil has slammed the Police Service accusing the security agency of having misplaced priority in terms of requesting for tools to make them efficient in discharging their mandate.
According to him, at a time the Police Service lacks basic effective communication equipment to facilitate their work, the Police administration rather requested the government to buy them brand new air-conditioned saloon cars.
“List how many ministers we have in Security, it is so distressing I don’t know what to say. We have over 16000 police officers, they have over a thousand vehicles and I’m not saying they are well resourced. I’m a friend of the Police and I’ve always said when I travel they are the best in West Africa. But I’ve had meetings with some senior police people and I’ve told them something I’m going to say here. You ask for the wrong things, we just bought $10milion worth of vehicles and you don’t have communication equipment, who does that. Does that make sense? Kofi Bentil said on Joy FM’s News File show while commenting on the death of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein Suale.
The IMANI Veep blamed recent killings in the country on lapses in the security system.’
He urged the Police to build capacity to rapidly respond and get to the bottom of such incidents.
Ahmed Hussein a partner of renowned investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas was shot three times, twice in the chest and another in the neck by gunmen on motorbike in Madina, Accra while driving home on Wednesday night.
He was one of Tiger Eye investigators who had his picture circulated by Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong in his ‘who watches the watchman’ anti-Anas video documentary and called on the public to deal ruthlessly with him whenever they came into contact with him and promised monetary reward for the perpetrators

I also think the police should critically examine their recruitment policy. It looks like police recruitment has been hijacked by the politicians in this country. So-called foot-soldiers of the various political parties outnumber real people who actually enter the service because they like it and want to work there. I am inclined to think that, most of the police men/women lack proper qualification and basic self-motivation to do their work. The intelligence service should get well-qualified and intelligent people, maybe from the universities, to enhance that area, and improve investigations into killings going on in this country. People wonder why investigations into several killings in this country have gone inconclusive.
As a good citizen and want the nation to progress, gather your evidence about Oslo and sue the government.I am also a citizen of Ghana and have compare the two years of the present government with the previous NDC government and sincerely this current government has been sincere than the previous. That is my opinion but you can bet to differ. During the second world war,one soldier said the Germans will just kill you with a bullet but the Russians will kill you and kill your soul.
Mr vice president, ghana is a failed country so everybody will ask for what benefits him or her and not what will be needed to support the citizens of the country. The president and ministers are not different hence the reason why we are in this mess. Each one for himself or herself.Everybody is looking for a way to dupe the nation and other government agencies are not above that.think oslo embassy, communication agreement and so forth.
