Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has announced the country has confirmed two more cases of coronavirus bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to nine (9).
Interestingly, the two new cases were imported.
In a tweet, he wrote: “unfortunately we have confirmed two more cases overnight. Ghana’s case count is now at 9. Health services are still managing all suspected and confirmed cases well.”
Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has affirmed the news on its website.
According to the GHS, of the two new cases, one is "33year old Ghanaian who returned to Accra from a conference in UAE" and the other is "a 56-year-old man, a Ghanaian who travelled back to Accra from a trip to UK."
"On the 18th March, we received another report form NMIMR indicating two (2) more confirmed cases from the Greater Accra Region. Both are imported cases. One is a 56-year-old man, a Ghanaian who travelled back to Accra from a trip to UK about a week ago. The other is a 33-year-old Ghanaian, who returned to Accra from a conference in UAE. Both cases are receiving treatment in isolation.
"...On contact tracing, a total of 399 contacts have been identified and are being followed up. Nineteen (19) of the contacts developed some forms of symptoms and samples have taken for laboratory testing. We have received results for 15 of them which are all negative for COVID-19 and we are awaiting results for four (4) of them."
The rise in number of confirmed cases comes despite government's drastic measures to curb its spread by banning social gatherings and imposing a travel ban on countries with high cases of the disease.

This really is going out of hands, have mercy God. But there’s one thing I don’t understand. If it’s believed that using hand sanitizer will in some way prevent one from being infested. Then in finding a cure, why don’t they try using the contents in the original hand sanitizer in making one. It’s my suggestion. Let’s help save Ghana.
You must also report the early 7 people who are rapidly getting better and stop the panic news you've been butting out there. The imported virus can't survive under a temperature over 20c especially under our environment. There is hope as China is even recovering very fast
We are pleading on government to ban incoming airline n all outgoing airlines In other to saved our mother Ghana please All Ghanaians who are out of country should remained there till this crises are Over please, let's save our people from all might corona virus
People saying blaming these new cases on the government is funny....The victims have been in Ghana for more than a week or two, these are pple who came to the country when there were no cases even in Africa, so you guys should stop saying they should close borders cos the boarders have been closed already, and citizens coming now will be quarantined, which have started already, i have a friend who came from south Korea just this Tuesday, shes in isolation already... So be informed... the borders are closed already, and recorded cases are victims who have been in the country already...Read the news yall
Very very bad it seems the government is not trying because all the border around the world is closed but only Ghana border is still working
I hear in the mist of the dreadful COVID-19 global atmosphere the musician Stonebuoy travelled to the UK. The authorities should quarantine him on his arrival. He should not be allowed to do self-quarantine.
Please close boarder and entry points completely. Those Ghanaians outside should spare us the worry. They stay for greener pastures
We're now worried about Ghanaians coming home from other countries. I will plead with the Health Authorities at our Airports and other entry points to have a mandatory quarantine for all Ghanaians coming home from other countries. Otherwise the number of patients will keep on rising daily. It will also limit those contacted. Ghanaians in other countries are panicking and they think Ghana is safe so they're rushing home. Thank you.
Shut down the airports but be security aware. We actually dot have infections they are all imported transmissions
I think those who are travelers into the country should also act responsibly and self-isolate. It is reckless and almost wicked to not self-isolate when travelling in from outside Ghana. It is a fact that almost all countries now have a case or more and these travels need to be kept at a minimum. Why would any right-thinking individual travel in and begin shaking hands or hugging people just because you travelled outside and came back! Ghanaians simply are stubborn and some people think the directives don't apply to them! There should be strict adherence to the requirement for quarantine for those travelling into the country and this must be enforced at the points of entry.
