Six well-built men popularly called �machomen� were yesterday, arrested by the police for allegedly going round voter registration centres at Taifa in Accra, intimidating people.
The suspects, Kingsley Awuni, 50, Edward Amafo Lincen, 26, Prince Charles Oduro, alias soldier, 25, Kwabena Boateng, 35, Kofi Ofori, 24, and Zakari Abdul Hamid, 35, are in police custody assisting with investigations.
The Deputy Accra Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Baffour Apenteng, said that at about 9:30 am, the police had information that the men, wearing black dress, were seen in an ash Toyota Tundra vehicle going around the registration centres intimidating people in the queues to register in the ongoing biometric exercise.
Superintendent Apenteng said a police patrol team, dispatched to Taifa, managed to arrest the suspects.
Mr. Apenteng said the suspects would be put before court and warned that it was an offence for any person not accredited, to be at a registration centre to supervise activities.
He said the provision of security at the centres was the sole duty of the security agencies.
