Four communities in Kasoa in the Central Region have been hit by acute water shortage, in most residents travelling for long hours in search of potable water. The situation has persisted for about seven months now.
The affected communities are Chapel Square, Lamptey Mills, Kae Mebre and Top Town. The shortage has compelled some of the people to resort to drinking contaminated water whilst others have turned to fetching water from an unused manhole nearby.
A resident at Lamptey Mills, Kwesi Ansah, claimed that he had to walk about two hours before getting access to water.
“At the moment, a gallon of water sells at GH¢1.20 at distant places. The situation is really affecting our daily activities,” Mary Afari lamented.
When contacted on phone, the Kasoa Regional Distribution Manager of Water, Mr Francis Lamptey, declined to comment on the matter.
