Energy Expert, Ishmael Agyekumhene says Ghana cannot rely solely on solar energy to resolve the energy crises in the nation.
Speaking to host Akua Agyeiwaa Kodie on Breeze FM's "Won So Mu", Mr. Agyekumhene bemoaned the erratic power supply to communities across the country but however believes the time is not yet ripe for Ghana to shed her reliance on hydroelectric power.
The Energy Expert recounted that calls on government to rely on solar energy system to improve the energy situation in Ghana may be too hasty in the wake of the current energy crises.
“We need immediate generation capacity”, however the nation cannot rely solely on solar system to power the economy; Mr. Agyekumhene noted.
He reasoned that the cost involved in erecting solar panels across the entire nation is much huge as compared to the usage of thermal plants.
This is because, according to him, “we cannot use the solar energy for everything. You cannot use the solar to power your air-conditioner. You will need more of it if you want to. We call something battery bank and you’ll need more.”
