Food and Drug Authority (FDA) is warning Ghanaian women to reject the newly approved US female version of Viagra called Addyi if their relatives abroad smuggle the drug into the country.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in America has approved the first prescription drug designed to boost sexual libido in women.
Unlike regular Viagra which works immediately after it is taken, Addyi must be taken for weeks and months before any benefit will be seen.
But Head of drug Enforcement Department at FDA, Thomas Amedzro says Ghanaian women must be careful not to take this drug until further study is done here in Ghana.
“Nobody in Ghana should go in for that drug. Even if a relative abroad brings it to you, reject it because it is very dangerous” he warned.
Mr. Amedzro added that “the drug is taken under very stringent control even in USA because it can lower blood pressure so low that the patient can faint and die ultimately so desist from it until further study is done here in Ghana”.
