The Member of Parliament for Klottey Korley in the Greater Accra region, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings is calling for the construction of a gym in parliament to help legislators de-stress after long sitting hours.
She made this request when she contributed to statement on the follow of the house to commemorate the World Kidney Day, which falls on Thursday, March 9.
Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, who is a medical doctor by profession, told colleague Members of Parliament that “the extended sitting hours do have effect on our muscular skeletal system”.
After close of business, she argued that members should “be given the opportunity to go the gym so that we can actually make up for the time that we spent sitting”.
She pointed out to the house that it has been well established that regular exercise is “a good means of stress management”.

Too many jokers in ghana polictics.
I can just imagine that the gym is built and members will not use it as they should. My job is of a sedentary nature my employers encourage us employees to be active by paying for a percentage of our gym membership-50:50. If I'm committed to going to the gym, I pay half and they will pay the other half. That way my employers do not have to incur unnecessary expenses of gym.maintenance etc. Alson I am not given free membership to the gym so that my employers do not have to pay for services not being used. Neither is the gym membership fees included in my pay, to ensure I'm actually using the services being paid for, the gym debits my acoount directly with 50% of the fees, my plyers are billed with the other 50% by the gym. See where I'm going with this. It's a bright idea from Ezanator, but we need to put structure's in place to ensure the idea when it comes to light is not abused. After all MPs are paid well enough to afford gym membership's abi?????
It isn't a bad idea actually but is it appropriate now? Ghana's issues are real and needs real efforts to resolve them. How about getting gym at home, since many MPs salary can afford it?
This young lady made submission first for her people. She requested a proactive steps toward flooding. What is wrong if she asked for a gym? You talked about people being hungry but you voted and watched your leaders spend $13 million on a vise presidents residence. You complaining about a $2000 gym making people hungry. If you Kobena can stop taking bribe, going to work on time and actually working for all the 8hrs may be perhaps your productivity will increase governments income to provide for the poor. And while you are at it, you will stop cheating the poor.
You see the f00olishness of people like you? What the young lady is requesting for is legitimate and very appropriate. Come to abroad and see, my company even have gym and people spend part of their lunch hour to exercise. Look at how horrible some of these MPs look! Base drum Stomachs, so unhealthy looking. The fact that some people will just father children and will not be responsible does not mean MPs can't exercise. You guys lack Brains.
A gym in the home, workplace or a community gym is a staple in society these days. Her request is a good one, since most parliamentarians are over 30 years old and the body needs to work out more to burn the fat. Stroke, Heart attacks and other health complications creep up on us after 40 years. So to have a gym in Parliament is a no brainer really. After all they drive luxury cars in Ghana and build multi-million dollar homes and people are still very poor.
Really!!!. We have people who do not have food to eat, the economy is in shambles, pregnant women are sleeping on the floor in the hospitals and you want a gym at your workplace. Live like the rest of us and walk a mile to go ride the trotro and tell us how important a gym at the workplace is!!! Get real
In addition to your dream gym for the parliament, would you also demand an olympic size swimming pool, a sauna and a Jacuzzi?? You deserve it!! You have been in parliament for only a few months, have not contributed a pesewa to anything on the floor or introduced any bill, you seem to be lost in proceedings and all you think of is a gym for "the chosen few" when the masses are living in poverty?? I blame all those inferior black skin people in the klottey constituency.
