The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), has disputed President Akufo-Addo’s comments that the Ghanaian worker has a poor attitude to work.
The President at the May Day Parade on Monday said some public sector workers after arriving at work, waste time praying and engaging in other unproductive activities and some even leave the office ahead of the official closing time.
“We arrive at work late and then spend the first hour in prayer, we become clock watchers and leave in the middle of critical work because it is the official closing time. Everything comes to a stop when it rains and we seem to expect the rest of the world also to stop.” “We have no respect for the hours set aside for work. We pray, we eat, we visit during working hours. We spend hours chatting on the telephone… we take a week off for every funeral and then we wonder why we are not competitive,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
He therefore charged the leadership of various unions to lead a campaign to change that attitude. However in an interview with Citi News, the Executive Secretary for CLOGSAG, Dr. Isaac Bampoe did not entirely agree with the President. “I am not saying we are 100 percent correct or we are doing everything right. Definitely one or two people will complain about the service and that should not be an issue. The fact that one or two people have complained about the service does not mean the whole service is that bad.”
He said an assessment of the Civil Service gave a different account from the President’s view.“He the President is just coming to the office so if there is something that he feels ought to be done, we don’t see anything wrong with it; but for him to complain does not mean that the whole service is that bad. We will get him an assessment of our chief directors and I will say that over 90 percent got an A and I don’t think that is a bad assessment. We in the civil service are doing very good.”he explained.

THIS IS SHAMEFUL ON THE PART OF DR BAMPOE. NANA ADDO SAID SOME OF THE WORKERS. HE DID NOT SAY ALL WORKERS. TO WASTE TIME AND CAUSE DEBATE ON THIS ISSUE MAKES YOU A TYPICAL EXAMPLE OF THE CONCERNED EXPRESSED BY NANA ADDO.
@ Keep Quiet and Suffer: Are you a serious ghanian who wants the progress of the country. I am really sorry that such characters like you also form part of our society. What does the vote of Nana Addo come in the discourse for? I guess you you are from a cultures that adores mediocrity and shows disdain to progress. Yes Ghanaians prefer to suffer from good advice and change for the better than to stay in laissez-faire attitude to draw the country backwards. If you have serious business doing and you enter a Ministry at about 1.00pm on a Friday afternoon only to find the ministry empty, No Minister and his Deputy, No Chief Director, no secretary to any of these important personalities but you find a group of young inactive staff waiting for the clock to hit 4.00pm so they can also run out of the office, then you will realize the importance of the advice the President is giving. Ghana must work again and for that it takes commitment and non lazy attitude to achieve what we all want Ghana to be. Think and don't play politics here
Institute well monitored Automatic clocking Device, with hourly payment system. Then fire Supervisors who fail in meeting their targets. Please start from Korle -Bu T- Hospital. Completely abbrogate the current practice where non -performing workers remain at post till retirement. Worse still, unqualified but relatives and cronies are entrenched in work places, over more qualified and willing to work.
Eeisshh My fellow Ghanaians, when Kwesi Pratt supported what the President said people insulted him yet people are here praising The President of the same comments repeated by Kwesi Pratt. Hmmm
You voted for him free of charge so why wouldn't he call you lazy now that he has power to deal with you. You are being served right. Nana, keep it up. They need to work for what they are paid for.
I really don't know what CLOGSAG is talking about? There is nothing like costumer care at the work place. All workers care about is money, but if you earn money anyhow you spend it anyhow. The few people who try to do their best, the lazy ones will ask you if the work belongs to your father. LET FACE FACT, We're all in this country and we're all workers!
CLOGSAG or whatever you are, is the president not Ghanaian national? My friend we all know what is he talking about. Only few Ghanaians have positive attitude towards government work especially. Laziness and Pilfering is the hallmark of the Ghanaian worker. Just visit the washroom of many Ghanaian institutions and see who we are. There is no patriotism in us. Let us change and make Ghana a better place.
Mr Executive secretary, if you will get off your duff and go looking around the civil service you will not come to any conclusions different from the president. most of you do indeed pretend to work...
Government workers are the worst thing that ever happened to Ghana. Even GRA people demand bribe before they open a file for you to pay your taxes.
The president is not wrong.Govt workers have the wrong attitude to work.
