The Accra Circuit Court has, for the second time, denied bail to four persons alleged to have robbed the Founder and Leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor.
The accused persons — Yakubu Yusif, the Central Regional Chairman of the GFP; Madam Donkor’s personal driver, Banabas Kayase; Abdul Razak and Opoku Agyeman — were denied bail on their first appearance before the court on January 8, 2017.
At yesterday’s sitting of the court, counsel for the four accused persons, Mr Vincent Aikins, filed a motion asking the court to once again grant bail to his clients, but the court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, in a ruling, dismissed the bail application, describing it as premature.
“It is premature at this stage of the trial to grant bail,’’ he ruled.
He, however, declared that the trial would be done expeditiously to prevent the accused persons from being remanded for long.
He, subsequently, fixed May 8, 9, 10 and 12, 2017 as the new dates for the continuation of the trial.
Not guilty
The four men have pleaded not guilty to two counts of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Two other alleged members of the gang, identified only as Joe and Nuamah, are currently on the run.
Yusif, Kayase and Agyeman are alleged to have contracted Shaibu, Joe and Nuamah to rob the former presidential hopeful at Sowutuom, near Accra, on December 30, last year.
The alleged robbers, armed with guns, attacked Madam Donkor in her vehicle and made away with her handbag containing $30,000, GH¢2,000, a plane ticket and other items.

So who is ever going to develop this country? Illegal miners are threatening to go into armed robbery.Traders trading under the Nkrumah interchange are threatening everybody. See? This is what happens when people are allowed the do the wrong things for a long time. The evil NDC looked the other way whiles so many things went wrong. The biggest f001 on planet earth Solomon Nkansah is urging traders to vote against the NPP because they're being told they cannot trade under the bridges. How can any country develop with such 1d1=0ts around influencing others. Well those who want to go into armed robbery should also write their wills first, and those traders should go to hell and fry there.if they have any sense at all they ought to realise that for all they know in a few years time they may not have to sell those insignificant ,cheap stuff from China .They may have real jobs then.
